Hello lovelies!
This week's been a little crazy so far, so please excuse the poor editing of this chapter :D Hopefully it'll get back on track next week! <3
-Ruarc Brennan-
My hands were clammy, and my mind was spinning. Why did it have to be number 26? It confirmed that my fears were correct, or at least, there was more proof now. I had the sneaking suspicion that I was a part in Simon's death, because nobody would want to hurt someone as pure as Simon. I had repeated it several times, there had to be an ulterior motive. I was that motive.
It sounds incredibly self-centred, I know. But considering 26 was my next-door neighbour, I was allowed to be a bit selfish. Miss.Thistle had been single all her life, as far as I was told. She lived happily with her three cats and various creepy objects. She sang merrily as she worked in the garden, harvesting the vegetables and herbs which she grew and disturbed amongst the houses. She didn't say what she was exactly, but we knew that she couldn't be human. Guesses usually surround water witch or nature witch. She didn't say anything when these labels were thrown at her.
The green front door looked the same as ever, plants hanging by two baskets framing the entrance to her home. She had been found in her armchair. Her cats had exited a gap in the window and went looking for help. Luckily, it was Mrs. Addams that they found, or else the police force probably wouldn't have been called.
The poor woman was shaken. She had just lost her son, and now she has lost a dear friend. I wondered who would have the audacity to rob someone so sweet of people so close. But my mind couldn't think about that for long. My thoughts swirled to anger and frustration. I knew that I was a monster, but that wasn't my choice. How could anyone make the choice to do this?
"Ruarc, are you alright?" Jade's soft voice met my ears.
I hadn't noticed that my hands were balled into fists, the skin which stretched over my knuckles white as a sheet.
I coughed awkwardly and nodded. "Let's just say I'm familiar with the victim."
Jade frowned at me. "Are you sure you should be here?"
Well, I've been wondering that since I was hired. "I'll be okay, still got to do my job." I turned to Quan, who was staring in my direction. He didn't have any particular expression on his face, just like those first few days when we met.
"You can take a breather whenever you need it," Kenji informed. He adjusted the glasses on his face and sighed. I doubted that this was comfortable for him, as it was definitely not his territory. "I might join you."
I just nodded and walked further into the house. Quan was investigating Miss.Thistle's armchair which had been there since before I moved in. Her cats were still here, protectively guarding the fireplace and rubbing themselves against my legs.
I bent down and stroked Rosie's back. She had always been my favourite with her black and white fur and friendly personality. She was usually incredibly shy, as when Miss.Thistle found her, she had been in a fight with another animal. She was rushed to the vets, and they declared her blind in her left eye. She has a long scar across her face from the fight and is quite the worrier when around those she doesn't know well.
"She wasn't moved after she died," Quan spoke after a while. "But she knew who it was, she recognised the murderer."
"Then can't you just use your powers on her?" William asked awkwardly.
Quan huffed. "For one, her body isn't exactly here right now. Second, I would need to connect to her ghost instead of looking through her body's memories."
