-Quan Leung-
"Separated?" Ruarc asked in a whisper as he continued to stare at the people in the cages. "From what?" I knew deep down that he understood what was happening, he just didn't want to admit to himself what he was looking at.
"Their soulmates," I replied with an almost mourning expression. I had seen many things during my time as an investigator, but I had never felt such sorrow in all my life. I had always been sensitive to emotions, but I thought that I had created a good enough barrier throughout my practising years not to let it get to me. But this was different. This was a group of people who had given up all hope of happiness. Their partners had been taken from them, and that was breaking their hearts.
"Where's Cappi?" Ruarc then whispered, causing my eyes to flash open and look around frantically.
I sighed when I realised that I was looking for a head of bleach blonde hair, not Cappi's usual hair colour. After remembering that, they were easy to find. That little bugger had scared the life out of me when I had been pulled into the vision, thinking they'd been caught by my father, but they were steadily approaching the camp, back straight like a soldier.
I nodded towards them, pulling Ruarc closer to the cages which were emitting a vapour of heartache. We would be able to eavesdrop from here with less chances of getting caught if we stayed away. I held onto Ruarc's hand tightly, which was very strange considering we were only figments of our own imagination. I wore my regular black robe, as I'd grown accustomed to attributing it to my subconsciousness. The only reason I had taken note of that was because Ruarc was now wearing a leather jacket over his white clothes, which I certainly had no part in cresting.
"Halt!" one of the fire-creatures hissed, steam arising from what I assume to be their mouth, "Who goes there?"
An arch of fire erupted over the invisible gateway to the camp, causing most of the prisoners in the cages to shudder and scamper backwards, closer to the lake.
"Indi Whitehorn," Cappi introduced themself loudly. Their voice was a little deeper than their natural voice, which suited the image but was immensely creepy. "I'm here to discuss an alliance." Their head rose even higher with a flame in their brown eyes.
"An alliance?" My father scoffed. "And why would I make an alliance with someone I've never heard of? You say your name is Whitehorn, but you have yet to present me with your wings."
I could tell that Cappi was holding themself back forms cowling as they revealed their wings, which were a deep blue which turned into a light pink at the end, it was a more common wing-colour for fairies from what I'd been told. They were long and fluttered quickly, a symbol of power within the fairy community. I feel like I had learned a lot more from Cappi, Modu, and Minerva over the past few days than I had my entire life. They were fascinating creatures, but at the same time, they were still basically running the entire world. They may have a tiny community, but the power which they wielded was intimidating for any supernatural creature with any sense.
"Impressive," my father commented emotionlessly as he stood up straight. "But I've had one fairy disappoint me, why should I even consider partnering with another one?" If he was actually asking that, he was stupider than I'd previously thought.
Cappi's expression immediately turned sour. "I'm sorry mister Leung, I didn't know that you were in a position where you would deny the help of a fairy." Cappi scoffed and turned their back slightly, immediately extinguishing a fire-creature which sent a ball of flames towards them. Then the ground beneath our feet began to shake.
I took notice of the fact that the prisoners in the cages glanced over at them with interest. Even they could see that Cappi had enough power to change everything here. I was wondering why they didn't just kill my father and get everything over with. If fairies were the most powerful creatures on the planet, who kept everything in order, why didn't they just kill all their prisoners and enemies without a second thought?
