-Ruarc Brennan-
Where could they have gone? I threw a punch at the sage green wall in frustration, and the paint, plaster, and bricks cracked under my knuckles. That would lower the resale value of the house, but I didn't care. Nothing like that was important when Cappi and Quan were missing.
"They can't just have vanished," Aubrey exclaimed. She and Sara had arrived at my house just after I had completed my third search of the building. "Their scents are still here."
I nodded my head absentmindedly as I moved my attention to the windows. None of them had been open. The door might have been opened, but that would be loud enough for Cappi and Quan to hear and escape through the back door, unless the person was too quick.
"How do you know they were kidnapped?" Luka asked. He had followed the two girls here, after a very small interrogation. He was impressive, but I didn't want him to get involved. I was hesitant about letting Aubrey and Sara stay, as they had just reached adulthood. This didn't feel like the type of things I should be allowing them to get involved in.
But they were already far too involved.
"Where else would they be?" I asked in an angrier tone than I had intended. "They would've come to us; their scents don't leave the house."
"So, you think someone with the power of teleportation got them?" Sara asked, her eyebrows practically reaching her hairline. "Ruarc, you're not thinking right. Teleportation is impossible."
I shook my head. "Sara, we live in a world full of vampires, werewolves, angels, demons, and witches. I don't think there are many things that are impossible at this rate." I pulled at my hair, trying to pull myself together. "But what could do something like that? Could anything have the power of teleportation?"
"No, but fairies might be able to tell you," Luka said calmly. "They're the ones who know the most about supernatural creatures, they're as old as time themselves."
I had to cover my face to stop myself from crying in desperation and despair. I may have been exaggerating, but this was normal, at least for a vampire it was. My emotions had never been such things to believe in rationality.
"I don't think we'd be able to reach creatures which we're not sure even exist," I muttered. But surely we know that they exist? Quan had mentioned them a few times, and fairy jail must have gotten its name from somewhere, right? "Even if they do exist, then how would we even get into contact with them?"
A loud meow came from the window, along with tapping. I turned around, and much to my surprise, Clover was standing outside, perched on the windowsill. She gave me a glare and meowed again. She knocked on the glass again, at the same time as a knock came at the door.
The four of us remained quiet, even more quiet than the house had been when there was nobody in it. But surely someone hadn't gone to the effort of taking Quan's cat to lure us out?
"Follow me," I instructed in a whisper. "We are not to split up, got it?"
They each gave me a variety of agreeing gestures as I went to answer the door. I could recognise who it was by the colour of their hair through the door windows.
"Fewesi," I greeted with a nod.
"I swear, you two get into more trouble than the people at work." She grunted and pushed past me, hesitating when she passed by Luka, but she headed into the living room. "I also told Jade and Kenji to come, hope you don't mind."
"The more the merrier," I said sarcastically, taking Clover off my windowsill and bringing her inside. "I'm sure that most of you know each other." I gestured to them all after I put Clover on the floor, who immediately began to sniff around.
