-Quan Leung-
I woke up with a headache the next morning. I hadn't drunk too much, so I doubted it was because of that. Maybe it was because I laughed more last night than I had in my life. I couldn't even be bothered to get fully ready for bed last night, I had fallen onto my bed with my shirt on and ended up within my blanket at some point through the night.
It was one of the best times I'd ever had.
I would love to try and convince myself that it's completely due to the fact I don't go out with people. I don't have conversation over dinner or have a casual visit to the local vampire bar. Last night was full of firsts for me.
Yet, I knew that Ruarc played a big part in the warm pit of joy which bubbled in me.
I was expecting to detest last night, but all of the previous thoughts had left my mind when I saw Ruarc dressed so smartly, holding the bouquet of roses.
I was distracted the entire morning, again. I had nearly gotten deodorant and hairspray, which Fewesi insisted I start using, mixed up. I had also nearly forgotten to say good morning to Clover, who clawed at my trouser leg as soon as I sat down for breakfast.
Ruarc didn't catch up to me until we were nearing the office, which filled me with unnecessary butterflies. I wondered if he regretted his decision to go on a date with me, or if he felt like he had signed some sort of contract which means that we're bound together for life. Maybe his mind was filled with thoughts about how to get rid of me, or how to break up with me anyway.
"Good morning," I greeted.
"Morning, sleep well?" he asked and rushed in front of me, opening the office door. He then flashed me a cheeky grin.
"Very well, thank you." I pointed backwards towards the door. "Was that an example of how quick you could wash dishes?"
He chuckled and followed me inside, waving to some people as we walked past. "Definitely not. I'm more of a 'showing by doing', type of person."
I paused for a moment and turned to look at him. His face looked brighter and healthier than it had yesterday morning. The dark circles under his eyes weren't as prominent either. A small smile was set on his lips. I couldn't tell if he was struggling with a hangover, or if he was still showing signs of being drunk.
"Oh, are you?" I smirked and turned around. I didn't know what that last two utterances meant, but there was a light-hearted energy between us now, nothing like when we first met.
I was getting sick of that thought. I was tired of comparing where we are now to where we were when we first met, because everyone gets to know others by spending time with them. We worked together; it was unavoidable. But now that we know each other, there's no way I can go back to how I used to be.
"Quan?" William's voice brought me out of my daydream. He stood by the open door, looking very tired and unimpressed. "Finally, late night or something?"
I cleared my throat and nodded. "Something like that." My eyes trailed down to the package in his hand. "More evidence?" I asked, tucking my cane under my arm.
"Yeah, says there's some good stuff in there, but hasn't looked through them thoroughly." He passed me the box, which I then passed to Ruarc, because it was surprisingly heavy. I didn't know who had sorted through the box, saying there's some good stuff in there, but I suppose he just meant the people who were clearing through her house.
"Stuff from the love witch?" I asked, glancing inside and spotting something which was bright pink.
"Yep, good luck." Before I could argue with him, he spun on his heels and entered his own office.
