Welcome to 'The Worth of a Coin'!! I really hope that you enjoy following the adventures of Quan and Ruarc!

This is set in the same universe as 'Were in Love', but if you haven't read that, I'd recommend reading this first! -I know, it makes no sense given the fact this isnt' finished yet...but still...spoilers ;)

I value each and every comment, and I really look forward to sharing this story with you! <3

-Quan Leung-

I resisted the urge to tug at my long black hair as I scrunched my eyes shut and took deep breaths. This particular case was beginning to stress me out and weigh on my mind far more than I usually let cases linger. But I wasn't getting any closer to discovering what exactly happened. Every time I suggested something, evidence always came up to prove that I was incorrect. Usually, magic was a lot more reliable than it was proving to be.

I tapped my fingers against the paperwork on my desk. I couldn't actually see the words which were on the page, but I could see the act of the ink being printed onto it. It was one of the reasons why I had the forensic job to begin with. My superiors were very reluctant to hire me at first, as witches aren't usually the type to get involved in legal matters. But they needed my help just as much as I desperately needed the money. I'd proved useful within the first day of my trial, so they kept me.

A knock came from the door, causing me to automatically slip my leather gloves on. "Come in," I called to whoever was on the outside. Two sets of footsteps entered my small office. I preferred the rooms that I worked in to be very small, as it was easier for me to learn the layout. I much preferred to be in smaller or confined spaces, as open areas made me feel very off-balance and overwhelmed, not that it's commonly known.

"Mister Leung, I have been instructed to introduce you to our newest recruit," William said with a bored tone. I had known William since I got the job six years ago. He was a balding man with a lot of family issues. He didn't like his job, nor was he good at it. He had recently deleted an entire case file on an investigation which was close to being solved. Since then, he's been demoted and was even more miserable.

"Is that so?" I asked dryly. "Then why is Jade here?" I gestured towards the other person in the room. I would recognise the signature lavender body spray from miles away. She always wore it, along with a naive smile on her face. I had to admit, she was one of my favourite colleagues, as she brought a bit of happiness to the otherwise dreadful building.

I couldn't tell the rest of their features; I had never really spent a lot of time going through their thoughts or dwelling in the office before getting to work. However, William was very anxious about his hair, and Jade always tried to give a polite smile to whoever she was talking to. Both thoughts were incredibly prominent whenever I accidentally touched them.

"She wants to meet him too," William replied and then groaned in frustration. "Now hurry up."

I stood from my squeaky leather chair and put my signature trench coat on. I grabbed my cane, passed the grumpy human and the smiling angel, and exited my office.

The hallways of the station were always a joy to navigate. There was always something in a different position than it was the day before. I let the ball on the end of my cane glide across the floor, bumping into legs and walls as I went. Some workers greeted me as they passed, to which I nodded in response. I was aware that in comparison to me, William would be regarded as a warm teddy bear. I didn't like people, I didn't like to be disturbed, and I certainly didn't like to be held up with anything which didn't concern me.

I knocked on Miss Afia's door, which I probably didn't need to do, as she was a vampire, and waited thirty seconds before turning the knob and entering.
