-Quan Leung-
I tried so hard to keep my eyes open, but my eyelids felt like they had weights attached to them, pulling them closed. The more I tried to stay focused on the conversation, the less I could make out. Modu was teasing and taunting them, which was probably their only defence as they were considerably outnumbered.
If my friends knew what Modu was, they would easily be able to overpower them. But I couldn't open my mouth and let them know what to do. They didn't know that they were a fairy too. Cappi would be the one to face them. I had faith in Cappi, but not when they're as injured as they are now.
Cappi's voice called again. "You know, I'm also pretty sick of everyone calling me a child." Their voice dripped with venom, but it still didn't sound as tough as Modu's. There was a clear difference in the two, and even I wasn't sure if it was due to degrees of power, or the age they are. I didn't know how fairies aged or matured.
"Quan, you're going to have to go with Jade," Ruarc told me, breaking the concentration I had on people's footsteps. Everyone was panicking, losing their heads. I didn't know what I could do to help the situation. My powers were useless if I couldn't communicate.
Or maybe I could.
I was in no condition to use up a lot of my magic, if I used too much I would be in a very similar condition to a corpse. I couldn't speak or move much at the moment, but I could potentially lose my sight and hearing if I exerted myself too much.
I bit down on my lip as a pain shot through my head, I kept repeating the word' okay', over and over again, pushing it towards Ruarc.
"What?" he muttered. I tried again. "Quan?"
My lip twitched ever so slightly. It was working. "Fewesi, Cappi, handle." I had to work on each word at a time, I wasn't sure if he heard me, but I was losing consciousness. The last thing I remembered were two arms taking hold of me, and the smell of lavender.
It was as though I was lucid dreaming. Maybe I was, maybe I'd died, or maybe I had put enough energy into my magic that it caused me to see what was going on around me. I didn't know which were more likely, but everyone else was having an argument.
I was being held in Jade's arms as she watched the others. Ruarc stood behind Aubrey and Kenji, and Sara was behind him.
There were two shadows dancing around the clearing, flickering like candlelight would. Fewesi was amongst the shadows, nearly matching their speed. It was as though she was the stars twinkling in the darkness. She moved so quickly; you would completely miss her if you blinked. The white parts of her hair and wings gave her position away amongst the dark.
Ruarc was looking around like he was lost. It was one of the times I could see everything clearly, so I tried not to dwell too much on him, or I'd be staring forever. His eyes were a deep and vibrant red and his fangs were showing. It was the first time I could see those properly too, and I took a moment for myself to admire the teeth which looked like icicles against snow.
I walked forward and waved my hand in front of Aubrey's face. She tensed slightly, but she didn't seem to see me.
"Ruarc, he's losing blood. We need to get him out of here." Jade looked up at him as she spoke. Her terrified eyes pulled on my heartstrings, I wanted to tell her that everything was alright. But everything clearly wasn't alright.
"Take him home," Ruarc stated. He didn't tear his eyes away from the dancing shadows. "Which one is which?" he whispered.
"I'd say the Fewesi is fighting would be our enemy," Sara said, with an almost sarcastic tone.
