MUSIC IS BLARING loudly through dilara's kitchen, the shared playlist currently playing santa tell me by ariana grande as the group stare at the various cookie mix boxes and ginger bread houses in front of them, excited grins on all of their faces as they talk about whatever they're most excited to make and decorate.

the chaotic bustle of everyone talking over one another floods the vicinity until the music is simply a blip in the background. laughter overpowers the speakers as matt shakes his head fondly, glancing to the side to watch chris and river playfully attack one another.

his attention diverts from the bickering to dilara as she mumbles something to him about having never gone to an aquarium because of course that's somehow what the focus has shifted to. he won't lie that it doesn't surprise him, eyes slightly widening at the revelation and lips parting ever so minimally in shock.

"seriously never?" he asks her, his eyes flickering between her and the rest of the group every so often, wanting to give her all the attention she deserves whilst simultaneously making sure they all feel included with whatever they're saying.

"no... i don't know i've never really thought about going? and rena kind of makes sense when she talks about fish being pointless," she laughs, fiddling softly with the bracelet on her wrist mindlessly to twist it into its correct place.

"first of all you can't trust anything rena says about animals, she doesn't like dogs," matt says exasperatedly as he takes over and fixes the dainty jewellery piece himself.

"okay true and lowkey i've always wanted to see a clownfish in real life, like a little nemo," her excitement spikes considerably and matt can't help but find it fascinating; the way her previous doubt about aquariums seems to slither away within seconds because of something so miniature.

"i was going to say you could see dory too but i don't even know what kind of fish he is," matt says after a beat of silence which he spent thinking until he came to the quick conclusion he has no clue.

"he's a blue tang or in like scientific terms he's a paracanthurus hepatus," she responds casually, entirely missing the way matt's brows instantly furrow in utter confusion.

"lars?" he asks and when she hums as a means of reply, he continues, "why the fuck do you know that? para what?"

she giggles at his poor attempt to repeat after her and then she shrugs, "i don't know, younger me had this weird obsession with the movie like it was some type of hyper fixation."
