Amara's POV:

Right now I'm dancing in the kitchen, listening to Bliss by Alayna. It's such an amazing song, I mean this woman is a goddess. I've officially decided that when I pray, It's to her. I've done my homework and now I'm listening to my music and making pancakes. It's not like those two idiots will miss flour, sugar and a bit of milk. I'm not even sure they know how to use it or what it is. Luke would probably mistake it for cocaine or some other substance. Anyway, I'm cherishing these moments that I have alone. Better than them being here. Well, it's better than him being here.

My mind starts to wander a little. Thinking about what my mum would be like if she didn't marry that man. If it was just us too. Dancing in the kitchen together making pancakes. Laughing when one falls on the floor. Watching movies and TV shows together. Talking about the characters and who are favourites are. But that's the problem with imagining. It only gets you so far. And I know she's not going to change.

She isn't as bad as him though. She doesn't hit me or anything. She leaves me alone. That's the problem. I hear her talking to Luke about how I ruined her life. Maybe if I knew what I did then I could help. My thoughts are rudely interrupted by a sharp loud knock at the door. "Bitch" I sigh under my breath. I walk over to my phone and turn off the music that is blasting from the speaker, which has clearly been stolen. And head to the door.

Finally, I open it. Remembering to not let go of the side of the door, and keeping my foot planted at the bottom, allowing me to shut it just in case. On the other side of the door is a blonde blonde-haired woman in a floral dress, a thick pair of glasses covering her face. Behind her is a taller man, although I can't fully make out his character. "Yeah," I say, looking up at the woman.

"Amara Miller?" she asks me in an overly sweet voice.

"Yes Ma'am" I respond.

"I'm Chrissy, it's nice to meet you," she says with an exaggerated smile.

"Hello," my voice board of the conversation already.

"This is Officer Hat..." Before she finishes her sentence I slam the door shut. I quickly turn the lock, hoping that it's enough to keep them out. My breath immediately racing. Police don't come around here. And when they do, it's not good news.

"Amara. Open the door!" Officer Hat man says. What, Can you blame me, I didn't exactly wait around to find out the rest of his name.

"Hey, kid. Open the door now!" He says again.

"NO!" I shout as forcefully as I can.

"Sweetheart", my body shivers at the sound of the word. That fucking word, I hate it. "How about you open the door so we can talk?" The woman says, who I'm guessing by her clothing choices and enthusiastic voice is a social worker.

"Just leave me alone alright? I haven't done anything." I'm shaking by now. I know I can't open the door. So I'm leaning against the wall trying to think of a way to get out of this mess.

Then I heard the door open at the back of the house.

Please say I remembered to lock that door.

I'm trying my hardest to breathe. But it's not exactly going very well. Finally, the police officer walks around the corner into the living room. His hand out in front of him weary of my next action. "Kid, I need you to calm down, and come with me and Miss Travis, alright" he says.
