I woke up, still inside the cryo-capsule. I heard many voices outside, and then, I was out, floating around. I looked around. Guess it's been six years.
Weird. It felt as if it had been a minute. Guess that's one of the benefits of being frozen.
Wait. I was nine when I was on Earth. So that means...I'm fifteen!
I looked at my body, which seemed to have grown and stayed the same at the same time. In my brain, I'm nine. But, my body seemed to say Nope. You're fifteen. Deal with it.
"Willow!" I turned to see...Adair?
"Adair?" I called. "You look so different!"
"You too." Adair chuckled.
Adair looked more older since the last time I saw them. More taller, bigger, and mature.
We floated through the ship until we found a room with avatars and trainees. I spotted Chad, who looked taller and had a faint beginning of a beard. "Is it weird that I missed that asshole?" I asked Adair.
"Yes." they muttered.
We sat on a bench. I saw Cass along with a few other girls in the corner. I felt my face grow red. Cass looked so much older...and prettier.
Just then, a big avatar walked in. Quaritch.
We learned about how Jake Sully betrayed Quaritch, how he died, and how he's now...alive, I guess.
He talked to the avatars about killing Jake Sully and the Na'vi. He came off more commanding than Mr. Grayson.
"Trainees." he said suddenly. "All you have to do is get your assignment, do it, and stay out of the way. I know you all are really deadly, but leave this to the professionals." All the avatars chuckled.
I stared at Quaritch intently. I'll show you, asshole.
"Leave it, Willow." Adair said.
"I didn't say anything!" I protested.
"You didn't need to."
I mumbled curses and focused on Pandora, which was visible through the window. She was beautiful.
Why did they want to harm her again?
Right, they wanted to harm to Na'vi, not Pandora.
But why?
The question struck me. I never thought about it before, and yet, here it is. I'll ask someone later. I thought, focusing back on Pandora.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We entered the main building of the RDA's headquarter. Following Quaritch, we came across a woman. Quaritch stopped and saluted, saying "General Ardmore."
Ah, the boss of the RDA.
General Ardmore nodded at Quaritch, then looked at us trainees. I looked around, seeing that we could all fit in the palm of an avatar.
Yes, that's how small our group is.
"You must be the new small soldiers." General Ardmore said. "Follow me to your rooms."
She led us down the hall to two doors next to each other. "The one on the right is for the boys, the left one for girls."
I was about to walk into the boys' room when General Ardmore stopped me. "Wrong one." she said.
"Right one." I said. "I trained with the boys."
"Didn't you now?" she asked, looking at me right in the eye.
I nodded, looking right back.
We had a small staring contest for a few minutes, and in the end, I finally won. "Alright." General Ardmore said. "Go in."
She walked away and just as I was about to enter the room, I heard a voice behind me.
"You really are brave." Cass said.
"Um, thanks." I said. My cheeks flushed.
We stood there for a few minutes in awkward silence. "Meet me outside at night." she suddenly blurted.
I looked at her surprised. "Won't you die due to the air?" I asked.
"I have a mask." she said. "Please?"
"Sure." I said. I watched her as she disappeared back into the room.
I stood dazed for a few minutes, then walked inside the boys' room. It was pretty much the same as the room back in New York, except that there were fewer beds. Like, only six beds.
I told you that we were small.
I took a bed in the corner and laid down, closed my eyes, and replayed the conversation with Cass. I felt my stomach tingle, my face go red, and a small smile creep onto my face.
"Where were you?" I opened my eyes to see Adair towering over me.
"I was stopped." I explained, sitting up. "By General Ardmore and then Cass."
"Let me guess." Adair said. "General refused to let you in, but you convinced her."
"Yup." I said proudly.
"What about Cass?"
I looked down to the bedsheet. "She asked me to meet her."
Adair wolf-whistled. I punched their arm. They stepped back, laughing, then said "Aren't marines forbidden to...you know."
"One, I'm not a marine, I'm a trainee. And two, that rule was taken down since hormones, love, etc, got in the way."
"Ah, I thought so." Adair said. "Quaritch had a kid here."
"Really?"
"Yeah, Miles something. He was sent back to Earth."
"Huh."
Just then, we heard a bell ring. "Time for practice." Adair said with a smile.
