Present Time

I miss you.

Misuk finally got the spelling right after trying for a long time. She blamed it on how tipsy she was. She was now debating on whether sending the text was the right choice or too much. What is the line between friendship and crush?

"Who are you texting?" Jenn asked, trying to snatch her phone away but Misuk was quicker and locked the screen.

"You are one nosy kid."

Jenn sat down in front of her unnie, holding a can of beer close to her chest, and Misuk wondered when did this girl grow up. They were able to share drinks now. How crazy is that?

"Do you wanna hear the lyrics I wrote yesterday?"

The maknae nodded excitedly. She loved Misuk's songwriting. Haneul showed up at the rooftop with more soju bottles and just by catching Jenn looking attentively at the oldest, she knew what was going on. Time for some serenading.

Misuk unlocked her phone, her open chat with Sunghoon waiting patiently there, and immediately deleted the message, regaining some sense of pride from doing so.

She went into her notes app and clicked on the most recent one, titled Cloudy Day.

"It's just a verse, don't get too excited."

I'm just a girl and like a cloudy day,
I wanna be fallen raindrop on your face.
I don't wanna be forgotten from your memory,
that scares me to death. Don't you know it?
I really love you. Don't you, don't you know it?

She expecting full on judgment from her friends due to the immense sappiness in the song, but instead, she was welcomed by some teary, sorrowed eyes.

Haneul felt like she got ran over by a truck. Carrying the weight of knowing the feelings of both of her friends for so long was getting to her but she couldn't do much about it. She had promises to keep.

Jenn just hated seeing Misuk like that. She never wrote something so sad before. Misuk often didn't allow herself to write about the boy this way because that meant her feelings were too serious to be changed. Once is written, it's over, she would repeat.

"Unnie, are you okay?"

Misuk giggled but the tears formed in her eyes started to fall unexpectedly. "It's okay, I'll be fine."

Lately, just the thought of him sent her over a spiral. It was because she was going through a rough patch again, or that's what she kept telling herself.

To be honest, she felt hopeless. Building up courage was painful but the thought of never being completely honest with him was pure agony. She held onto faith until a week ago.

Misuk fell asleep at his dorm's living room while they were watching a movie and the next morning, she overheard him telling Jake how afraid he was of losing the friendship they had, that he liked having a girl friend so much he could never risk it. She had no idea about the context though.

You know what can ruin a friendship so easily? A sudden love confession.

The idea flew out of her head right away. She could never go against his wish. They were just friends, really good friends, and that was it. She needed to get used to that and it was driving her insane.

"I know you hate drinking with me because I get all melan-

"No" Haneul abruptly interrupted her. "We know you're not okay, so if this a way of helping you, we are all for it."

The emotional moment was interrupted by the trillion notifications Misuk's phone was getting and, for a second, the thought a sasaeng getting her phone number appeared, but it was actually Sunghoon.

Annoying Sunghoon

Hi

Are you home?

Can you check outside your door?

I left something for you

Are you dead?

Maybe you are out partying

Shit I should've texted first

Anyways

Check outside of your door when you have the time

Misuk quickly stood up and while she was still reading the messages, she went to the entrance of their dorm, full of curiosity, to see what he was talking about. The girls were following her steps like lost puppies since they had no idea what was going on.

The singer made sure to not open the door abruptly and when she saw a familiar packaging, she grinned. He got her a tiramisu from his favorite bakery.

Jenn and Haneul found the act adorable so they couldn't hold in an "aw" when she picked the box up. It was such a cute gesture.

"How can I not like you?" Misuk whispered to herself looking at the little note that was sticking out from the top. Was that his handwriting?

The girls closed the door when she walked in again and let her get ahead when they noticed the existence of a piece of paper in Misuk's hands. Even if they were really curious, privacy makes their friendship special and they didn't want to ruin her moment.

That little spark of hope that was fading out earlier shone brighter than ever when Mimi read the letter and it said "Just because I wanted to. I hope you are happy forever, my Kim Misuk."

My?

Misuk turned her head and saw the two girls staring at her like she was a ghost or something. "He said I'm his."

"What?!"

The now black-haired girl got startled by their loud screams, snapping her out of the nervousness Sunghoon just put her through.

Was she overthinking it? Did he meant it in a friendly way? Was he playing with her feelings?

"Do guys say stuff like that to their friends?" she questioned sitting down on the sofa. She was way too dizzy.

"Maybe he wanted to see your reaction to it" Jenn replied, re-reading the note again. "This is so romantic!"

Haneul nodded, agreeing with the little one, and switched her attention to Misuk, who was staring at the ceiling.

She knew about Sunghoon's plan but she didn't think he was actually going to do something. "Unnie, maybe he wanted to see if you would call him out for it or just say thank you and be nice back."

"Yeah, Han, but all of the sudden?"

Instead of answering, Haneul just shrugged her shoulders and went back to Jennie, who was getting more drinks. Misul unlocked her phone, searched for Sunghoon's chat and stared at it for a bit.

She noticed his profile picture changed so she clicked on it to see the picture better. It was a picture she took of him with her film camera at the Han River. Just like that, the spark of hope turned into a growing fire.

Annoying Sunghoon

Did you get it?

I did get it.
Thank you, it made my night.
