"Sunghoon-ah! Where have you been!? Misuk has been looking for you. I think she wants to hang out with you!"
Jake jokingly hit Sunghoon's arm but his whole body was so tensed up, he ended hurting himself. Sunghoon didn't even flinch so the Australian followed his gaze and understood what was going on.
"Oh no" he muttered. "Bro, hear me out. That probably means nothing."
"You think?" he sarcastically said. "I need a drink."
Misuk's legs were already starting to cramp so when some guy came up to Minhee, she found the perfect opportunity to go get another drink and maybe sit down at the bar.
The DJ was starting to play the good songs so she was walking while dancing, catching some weird stares on the way. She didn't care enough, that's why she barely has any idol friends anyways. All pretentious people.
"Can I get the strongest drink you have, please!?"
Misuk got startled by the loud voice, only to find out it was the person she most wanted to see tonight. Why was he so hasty though?
"Hoon!" she shouted, clinging to his arm.
Sunghoon was about to flip off but seeing Misuk and feeling her body close to his calmed him out a bit. She immediately noticed how red his ears were, but he didn't seem that drunk at all, so she found that weird. Maybe he got mad at something or someone?
"Where have you been!? I've been waiting for you."
Sunghoon clicked his tongue. "Sure you were."
He never had to endure seeing Misuk with someone else so he finally understood what other people meant when they talked about jealousy feeling like someone is ripping your heart out. He couldn't act normal right now.
"What? Are you mad at me?" she questioned. "What did I even do?"
"I don't know, Misuk" he replied more gently. "Do you want something to drink?"
The girl nodded, still confused at his behavior, but holding tighter to his arm. She didn't know why but it was getting harder and harder to breathe as time went by.
Misuk always struggled with crowds so she would normally pass on these types of invitations, but she wanted to try it out again since it was a new year. She was starting to regret it.
Sunghoon was trying his best to not even look at the girl, but his eyes kept going back to her every two seconds. He started noticing her smile gradually fading and he knew something was up.
"Mimi, are you okay?"
She shook her head. "I wanna go home."
He looked around, trying to quickly find Haneul, but that was almost impossible considering how full the place was. He forgot how mad he was two seconds ago and grabbed her by the hand while trying to make their way out of the place.
He was scared of her getting hurt so he hurried as much as he could, pushing people out of their way if it was necessary. Misuk kept her head low, trying to concentrate on other things that wasn't her heartbeat, and just moved where he did.
"It's okay, I'm here."
Despite the streets also being jammed, Sunghoon found a dimly lit alleyway where Misuk could be away from the noise and hid from the rest so she wouldn't feel embarrassed. It wasn't the first time he was present during an episode like this so he knew what to do.
Misuk's heart was pounding like a drum, her breath coming out as ragged gasps as she stabbed her palm with her own long nails. She wanted to cry her eyes out but the angelic face in front of her, telling her to breathe in and out, stopped her from doing so.
"Is it better now?" he softly asked, seeing her starting to breathe more normally. "You scared me."
Misuk wiped out the one single tear falling down her cheek and exhaled once again. "I'm sorry, I don't know what happened."
Sunghoon giggled, "You had a lot of alcohol too fast, right?"
Both looked at each other, not even moving a finger, and bursted out laughing, impressed at how easy it was for them to read through the other.
The club wasn't so far away from Nova's dorm so Misuk started walking, expecting Sunghoon to follow, which he obviously did. He stayed behind her for a bit, texting their friends so they wouldn't worry.
She was still taken aback by how mad he seemed to be earlier but she wasn't sure how to bring the topic up or if it was the right time to do so
"I know what you're thinking" Sunghoon said, rushing his pace so they could be side to side could. "I was not mad at you, don't worry."
"Don't lie to me" she laughed. "I should be the one angry, you know? I came to this party for you and I couldn't even find you."
"You did?" he questioned. Misuk closed her eyes for a bit. She fucked up.
"Were you with a girl?" she added. She wasn't backing out now.
Sunghoon raised his perfect eyebrows. "Is that why you were dancing around with him? Was it like payback or something?"
Misuk was perplexed that, not only he saw them dancing, he seemed jealous about it. Why would a friend be jealous of something like that?
"And no, I wasn't with any girl. I like someone."
Ouch.
Sunghoon suddenly stopped his walk and turned the girl's body to face him directly. He held her cold hands, softly caressing them, and with each breath he took, the thought of his feelings being unrequited became heavier, threatening to shatter the moment, but he was so close now to even dare letting go of the opportunity.
Misuk stood there like a statue, feeling everything and nothing at all at once. She wasn't sure what he was doing, or if she was dreaming.
Determination took over Sunghoon when he sees a little shimmery glow in Misuk's eyes, so, using that as an incentive, he took a steep forward, his voice trembling with anticipation.
"I like you, Mimi."
