KAGISO

Walking in a club, I greet the bouncers and make my way to the VIP section.

Me: Gentleman.

I bro hug them and sit down.

Ade: Drink?

Me: Make it neat please.

Ade: Trouble in paradise?

I thank him and knock down the glass in one go. I pour another one.

Ty: Whoa! Let me guess women?

Me: Can you believe that fool says he wants to get married?

Ty: Who? Dlamini?

His accent always cracks us up.

Me: He says his in love.

Tyson chuckles.

Ade: Pussy must be good abi.

I snort.

Me: To the extent of marrying her?

Ade: Let me tell you something about love boys.

Tyson and I snicker in unison.

Ty: Don’t start with your monologue. The only reason you’re married is because they stole an ID for you in order for you to have that citizen.

Ade raises his hands in surrender.

Me: I don’t think you guys understand this. Whoever he is in love with will make him weak. A weak Dlamini is a liability to us.

Ty: I agree.

Ade: I’m married but I’m still me.

I glare at him.

Me: The reason being is that she doesn’t love you. She hates your guts.

Ade: Way to broke a man’s ego.

We chuckle.

Ty: Hell will freeze the day I will admit that I’m in love.

Me: Last time I checked you had a fiancée.

Ty: Don’t remind of that. I don’t think the will be a wedding.

Me: About damn time. I told you the first time we meet that Yvonne doesn’t love you but what you have. Do I have to school you for everything?

Ade chuckles.

Ade: I’ll take being hated than being taken for a ride.

Me: Says the man who been hated for nearly a decade now.

Ty cracks up.

Ade: One of these days you guys will experience what Dlamini and I are going through and it will be us who will have the last laugh.

Ty and I share a look before bursting in laughter.

Us: Not a chance.

We muttered in unison.

Me: See we have that thing call brain. We don’t listen to our hearts because they lead us astray. Our mind is more dominant than our hearts.

Ty: To dominant minds

We click our glasses toasting. Ade puffs his cigar and shakes his head.

NARRATOR

Sitting opposite his sister, Akhona popped his knuckles and looked at the table behind Aza. Sandile nodded and pretended like he was reading a newspaper. The week flew faster under Sandile’s protection than those two awful days he spent without anyone on his corner. He was given the offer and he has seen the benefits of having a brother in law. Sandile has been taking care of him making sure he was out of harm’s way. He was still alive because of this man so what more does he want? He owes Sandile his life and the least he could do was ask his sister this favour. And knowing his sister, Aza would agree in a heartbeat just to keep him say. After all he was her father, mother, brother and the only family she has.
