SANDILE
I’ve been pacing around trying to make sense of what the caller was saying. It has to be a mistake but I still remember but pieces of that day of her burial. The was no body and now I’m starting to think whatever this evil woman gave me was working for on that time. Any normal sane person would have made a follow up on that but I didn’t . Fuck she blinded me to the point of seeing no shit. I rush to the bathroom again as my intestines twists and turn on me. I don’t think I will ever trust anyone with my food especially women. I raise my head and stare at my reflection and on the mirror after rinsing my mouth. My eyes are bloodshot and the reflection staring back at me I could barely recognise it. I take my phone out and place a call. The phone rings unanswered.
Me: It’s me get back to me as soon as you get this message. It’s urgent.
I conclude the call and slide the phone back in my pocket. Rage seeps in me. Since when am I a toy? I click my tongue and storm back to the bedroom.
Meme: Hello. Yes please help me. He will kill…
She jumps startled when I take the phone from her and end the call.
Meme: I’m sorry.
She screams sobbing.
Me: What else did you do because I have a feeling that was not all?
Meme: That’s all I did. I swear.
Me: You think I’m playing with you wena ngiyabona.
I grab her by her neck and pull her to the balcony. Her face dangling on the railings.Meme: I’ll tell you. I’ll tell you.
I pull her off.
Meme: I lied about Kagiso making advances on him.
Me: What?
Meme: He was starting to be suspicious and I just had to take him out. You trusted him more than you trusted me.
I chuckle in disbelief. Satan is that really you? Because if that’s the case welcome the earth.
Meme: You relied on him with every decision you took. The businesses and the legal advice.
Me: Make me understand this, you got between me and my best friend?
She nodded sniffing. The back of my hand collides with her cheek making her gasp.
Meme: I’m sorry.
Me: (chuckling) Oh, you will be.
I grab her neck again and push her to the railings and press it harder, chocking her in the process. She coughs hysterically clawing my hands with her nails.
Meme: (raspy voice) Sandile you’re killing me.
I press it harder than before. She stands on her tiptoes slapping my hand. I clench my jaws and ignore her hands. Her body slowly gives up the fight and I pull her away. She widen her eyes gasping.
Meme: (coughing and crying) I’m sorry.
Me: You will be.
My phone chimes as I attempt to choke her again.
Me: Dlamini.
Kagiso: What could be so urgent than your stupidity?
I walk back to the room and lock her outside.
Me: The DHA called me and they say Aza is alive.
Silence.
Me: Did you hear what I said?
Kagiso: How?
Me: I also don’t know.
Kagiso: How sure are you that she’s alive?
