A new life for Sofia

Chapter thirty

The Deluca-Bishops had an amazing vacation.

On the second day, the family had decided to go to the zoo. Sofia had shown an interest in animals, and Carina adored them as well, so Maya didn't even have to think twice about bringing her family to a zoo. She would do anything to see her girls happy.

Sofia was relatively 'childish' for a twelve-year-old. Most of the children in the zoo were younger than her, but she didn't care. The family saw everything the zoo had to offer. Sofia was most excited about the tigers, so they saved that for last.

''Can we go to the tigers now? Pleaseeee moms?'' Sofia asked as she pulled a little on Maya's jacket.

''Have the monkeys bored you already, scimmietta mia?'' Carina smiled.

Sofia gave her mama a look, but smiled and pulled her mama in a hug.

''Okay, I've looked, and the tigers are that way.'' Maya pointed.

''Follow the queen of the clipboard.'' Carina joked.

''Heeeyy!'' Maya acted all offended.

She tickled her wife for a few seconds, as a joke. ''I'd like to think I've improved quite a lot on the clipboard part.'' She said.

''Oh, yes you have, bambina.'' Carina smiled sarcastically and pulled her wife in for a kiss.

''Love birds, let's go see the tigers!'' Sofia exclaimed as she was already a few steps ahead of her moms.

Sofia was mesmerized by the tigers. The three of them watches as the tigers were fed individually by some of the workers. On the way back to the car, Sofia couldn't stop talking about the animals.

''Did you see their teeth when they opened their mouths to get the meat?'' She said first thing as they got back in the car.

''I know, bambina.''

''And- and- and the mother of the pack was very defensive of her children when the workers came closer. Did you see that?'' Sofia asked

''We sure did, bubs.'' Maya smiled as she looked through her rear-view mirror.

Sofia kept rambling on and on about tigers, until Maya got a bit bored of it.

''You know Soof, I believe there was a tiger once at the station.'' Maya said to start a different conversation.

''WHAT! How come you've never told me? Tell me about it, mom!'' Sofia exclaimed as she wiggled in her seat.

Maya's plan backfired quite a bit, as she now had to explain everything about that one time a tiger entered the station.

By the time they got back to the cabin, Sofia had sucked a lot of energy out of the parents. Luckily, Sofia got bored of doing nothing in the car. She picked up her guitar straight away and brought it to the main space in the cabin, where her moms had already taken a seat in front of the fireplace.

After dinner, Sofia had gone to her room in the cabin.

''Do you want to watch a movie, bambina?'' Carina asked her wife. The two of them were hugging on the couch. It had been a while since the wives had time to take care of each other. With Sofia in her own room, Maya had done her best to make the room as romantic as possible.

Maya snuggled a little closer. ''Sure, you can pick one.'' She said.

Carina chose more of a romantic movie. There were some snacks, something to drink, a cozy blanket and of course, fake candles.

Sofia joined them for the last half hour of the film for some real family bonding time.

The rest of the vacation went by way too fast for everyone's liking.

The next morning, Maya and Sofia got up pretty early to go for a run. Even though they are both pretty competitive, they decided to take it easy this morning. They enjoyed the nature and took breaks to take everything in. They ran to the bakery in the nearest village to get breakfast for both of them and Carina.

The family ate breakfast outside. The birds were chirping, the calm sounds of the river flowing could be heard, and the weather was lovely.

After that, the family drove to a nearby city, where they got new clothes for are three of them, plus some clothes for the twins. With Carina being 24 weeks pregnant now, her bump was really growing. The amount of clothes she needs to buy to keep up with the growth of their two boys is insane.

On the last day, the family went back to the beach again. Both Sofia and Carina are obsessed with beaches because of their birthplace.

''You know, I actually can't wait for the twins to be born and to grow.'' Sofia said as the family took a little snack break from playing in the sea.

Maya smiled. ''Me neither, little mermaid.'' Both Sofia and Carina laughed at the new nickname.

''No, but seriously. I wonder what it's like to play with them.'' Sofia said.

Carina put another grape in her mouth and fed Maya one as well. ''I think about it all the time, piccola.''

''How long until they come?'' Sofia asked.

''Well, the due date is on the 14th of November. But with twins it's likely they'll come earlier.'' Carina explained.

''I can't wait.'' Maya spoke. Even though taking care of Sofia has taken a part of her insecurities about being a mother away, she's still nervous. Especially after the encounter with Lane, which is still fresh in her mind.

Maya stood up and clapped her hands. Then, she lifted Sofia in the air and carried her daughter on her shoulder. ''Let's see if the water is still wet.'' She laughed and ran into the sea.

''Home sweet home girls.'' Maya said as she had to wake her daughter and wife. They both fell asleep in the car.

Maya and Sofia carried all of the family's luggage inside the house, while Carina ordered take-out.

''Do you think we can go to The Netherlands or Italy next year?'' Sofia asked with a mouth full of pizza.

''Make sure your mouth is empty when you talk, Soof.'' Maya said gently

'''Sorry, mom.'' Sofia said with a now empty mouth.

''To answer your question, bambina. We have been thinking about it as well. I don't know if we can do it next year, because I don't know if the boys are ready then. But in the future, we would love to see where you grew up and I would love to show you where I'm from as well.'' Carina explained.

''Does that answer your question, bubs?'' Maya asked.

Sofia nodded. ''Do you have to go to work tomorrow?'' She asked both of her parents.

''Yes, both mama and I have to work. We thought that you could come to the station with me.''

''Oohh, well because I thought I could maybe go over to Olivia's. She sent me a message today.'' Sofia said.

Carina and Maya shared a look, silently agreeing.

''That's ok. How about you come to the station first? Someone can take you to Olivia's around 1?''

''Ok, mom. I'll tell her.''

The day ended with all of them tiredly hanging out in the living room. The tv was on, but everyone was busy on their phones. Though they all silently enjoyed each other's company.
