Over the next few weeks, the wives noticed that Sofia had shown more and more strange behavior. It was usually in the morning, before breakfast. At first, the wives brushed it off as Sofia not being a morning person, but then they noticed it after school as well.
Sofia was moody, a bit sweaty and a little pale almost every time it happened, but other than that she was thriving.
After the adoption, Maya and Carina noticed that Sofia was finally a little bit more comfortable talking about her feelings. Still, I didn't come easy, but at least she talked about some of her worries.
She has been really enjoying middle school so far. A week after try-outs, she heard that she made the soccer team. Some classmates were also selected, such as Rachel and her best friend Olivia. The group of girls had become close very quick, and they often hung out at school and after training.
Sofia was a strong defender, with a powerful shot. She plays as a center back and was quickly made captain because of her coaching abilities. The first match went very well. The team won 4-2, and Sofia had an assist from a long pass.
She was also performing quite decent in class. Even though she doesn't always do her homework and gets into trouble from time to time, her grades are pretty good, except for science. She didn't like her teacher, and her teacher didn't like her. Ms. Woods was a strict woman, and she and Sofia definitely didn't click.
Carina is 34 weeks pregnant and has been resting a lot. She does some paperwork from home sometimes, but other than that the nestling had begun. The risk of complications from possibly being born prematurely was very low now, which the parents were very relieved about. The boys were still doing well, and it was just a waiting game from here.
They had been talking about names for some time now, brainstorming together before they went to bed. While they definitely had some ideas, they weren't 100% sure yet.
Sofia came home from school after a pretty long day. It was already past five when she put her bike back in the garage. Soccer practice was intense, and she was feeling a bit tired, but satisfied with her performance.
Both parents were home and greeted their daughter.
''Hi princess, how was practice?'' Maya asked as she filled up a glass with water for Sofia, who looked thirsty and happily accepted the drink.
''It went well.'' Sofia answered as she took a seat at the kitchen table. She hadn't showered yet and didn't want to make the couch dirty.
After recovering from the intensity of practice, she went upstairs to take a shower. However, as she almost reached the top, she started to feel incredibly dizzy and weak. She tried to stabilize herself but missed a step.
Maya and Carina heard a big bang, followed by silence. Immediately, they were alarmed and rushed to the stairs, which was where the sound came from. Sofia lay almost at the top of the stairs, face down.
Maya rushed up the stairs. To her relief, she could hear Sofia moaning quietly, moving a little.
''Don't move, Sofia.'' Maya said as she got down to check on Sofia. She put a firm hand on her back and got into a position to look Sofia in the eyes.
Carina also got there, so Maya moved to the top of the stairs while Carina took over her position.
''Go get the first aid kit, Maya.'' Carina ordered.
''Can you move your hands and feet?'' Carina asked. She let out a breath of relief when she saw that Sofia was still able to move everything.
''That's good, piccolina. Okay, what hurts?'' Carina asked as Maya came back with the first aid kit.
