It's been a couple of weeks since they had the talk about Sofia's behavior in school. And although she does make her homework almost every time now (mainly because now, Maya and Carina check it), her behavior in class hasn't really improved a lot. But she does interrupt the class a lot less now.

Carina is seventeen weeks pregnant , and everything is going well. Both babies are healthy, and besides some back pain and a couple of sick days, Carina has been feeling pretty good. They'll find out the gender of the babies in three weeks.

It's June right now, which means that summer vacation is right around the corner. The family will be taking a five day trip to Long beach, which is about a three-hour drive from Seattle. Also, Sofia will celebrate her 12th birthday this summer.

Last week, they had a visit from their social worker, Jessica. Everything looked good, and Jessica suggested that the two women could look into adoption. The two were over the moon by this news. They still have to ask the bambina if she wants to stay with them, but they've already started the proces, just because it can take a while.

It's a Tuesday night in Seattle. While almost the whole city is sleeping, A-shift is being paged to a five-alarm fire. An apartment complex caught on fire, and it had spread through the entire building.

[POV: Carina]

I'm preparing breakfast for Sofia. This is the first time Maya had to go away at night while she's here. She hasn't showed us any anxiety regarding Maya's job, but you never know.

Maya was paged around 2 last night. "I've got to go my love. Sleep well. I love you." She told me as she hurried out of the room. "I love you too, Maya. Be safe please." I told her, and she came back to give me a kiss.

It doesn't get any easier, being married to a firefighter. But I would change a thing. I still slept pretty decent when she left.

She been gone for about five hours now. I never turn on the tv while she's on a big call. All the news makes me anxious.

I hear footsteps walking downstairs as I'm setting the table.

"Buongiorno principessa. Hai dormito bene?" Sofia nodded, walked over to me and gave me a big hug.

"Where's mom?" She asked as she took her seat at the table. The table was only set for two, so that gave it away.

"She got paged to a five alarm fire last night, bambina."

Her face fell a little. That tells me that she's probably a bit worried.

"Ooh..." She looked at her plate for a few seconds before finally eating her French toast.

"She's very good at her job, bambina. Try not to worry too much, va bene?"

"Si, mama."

Hearing her call me mama is the best gift I could ever ask for. I can't wait to have two more little persons call me mama as well.

"How about I braid your hair after breakfast. We're still too early to leave for school anyway." I asked her, and she agreed.

Sofia's hair is beautiful. It's thick and a dark shade of brown. I thought it was black when I first met her, but I was wrong. It took me a while to braid it, but that was fine by me. This gave us time to talk about how she feels about the babies, summer, school and more. Although I think Sofia was very happy to be able to move around again, after I finished.

[POV: Sofia]

When I arrived at school, everyone was already talking about the fire. I'm worried about my mom. I don't want to lose another person. School doesn't begin for another ten minutes, so I went to find Olivia.
