A new life for Sofia

Chapter forty-two

The twins had a pretty good night considering they were newborns. Maya and Carina were figuring out a schedule, while Carina was also still recovering from the birth.

Nurses came in every few hours to check on the boys. If they passed their car seat test tomorrow, they would be free to go home.

But that was still a couple of hours away. For now, they had pooped, and they were fed, and it was time to try and sleep again. Their little personalities traits were already showing. Playing music calmed Andrea, while Lorenzo liked to be bounced around.

The couple couldn't wait to take them home and raise them.

It was seven in the morning when the wives woke up to an alarm that was called Andrea. Inevitably, he also woke his little brother, who also started crying.

''Do you want your stuffed animal, Enzo?'' Maya asked as she showed Lorenzo the monkey Amelia had gifted him.

He quieted down and stared intensively at the stuffed animal. Maya took at as a sign to sit down and cuddle with him, and he seemed to like that a lot.

Meanwhile Carina had just changed Andrea's diaper, and her singing had caused him to fall back asleep. Andrea definitely seemed to be fussier than his brother, and the mothers were pretty anxious to find out if it was just personality or if it was something health related.

Of course, they knew that all babies are different. And even though Carina was an OBGYN, she wasn't a peds doctor. Also, the exhaustion and the fact that they are her babies might cloud her judgement.

After updating everyone important in their lives and eating breakfast, the wives heard Dr Wilson and Dr Hayes enter the room.

''Goodmorning DeLuca-Bishops! How are we doing?'' Jo asked as she gloved herself.

''I think we're doing pretty good.'' Maya said as she tried to properly take Andrea from Carina, but she still found it a little difficult to maneuver with two babies in her arms. But she knew Jo was there to check on Carina, which would be easier if the Italian didn't also have to hold a baby.

While Jo focused on Carina, Maya was led into a room by Dr. Hayes.

''We're going to do the final tests to see if your sons are ready to come home. Who would like to go first?'' Cormac asked.

Maya looked at her sons. ''I think Andrea since Lorenzo is still asleep.''

Dr. Hayes took the little boy and started checking him over. He was almost finished when Carina joined them

''Alright little DeLuca is doing fine. Let's switch babies.'' Hayes said.

Lorenzo also passed all of his tests. It was time for the final one: the car seat test.

''As you know, we'll monitor both babies for ninety minutes while they are sat in their car seats. If everything goes well, you get to take them home after.'' Hayes explained.

Maya and Carina had the honors of strapping them in their seats. A nurse was present in the room to monitor the boys, who were doing well.

After ninety anxious minutes, the test was over, and both boys passed with flying colors. ''Alright Deluca-Bishops, you're free to take your sons home with you.'' Dr Hayes announced.

The wives thanked them before signing the discharge papers. Maya then took the responsibility to carry both of the car seats as they walked out of Grey-Sloan.

After checking four times if the boys were well secured, Maya got behind the wheel, while Carina sat in between their sons. Maya was driving a lot slower than she normally would, but luckily, the roads weren't very busy. Before they knew it, the family arrived home.
