It was weird, Merla was confused on why the entirety of Gryffindor was staring daggers at her as she walked to class on Monday. But then she saw Slytherins giving the Gryffindor's a cold shoulder.
Well... when were they not?
Still tension raised around Hogwarts. Why were Gryffindor mad at her though? Maybe they were scared she would beat Harry. Still, she gave a nasty look towards anyone who even glanced towards her.
"People are weird." Merla groaned as she sat down for lunch the next Saturday.
"What happened, champ?" Lori sat next to her.
She shook her head. "Half the school thinks I shouldn't be champion and the other half are acting like I'm some popular muggle celebrity."
The two flinched as Zaid sat next to them, slamming his transfiguration homework on the table. "McGonagall is killing me." He groaned as he flipped through his book. "Merla. You're good at transfiguration, right?"
"I'm good at everything." She joked. "Do you need help?"
"Yes!" The veins in his neck nearly exploded. Merla has never seen him this stressed. "I need help with vanishing spells."
Merla pulled out her wand, with a flick of her wrist the goblet Zaid was drinking from disappeared. "Like... that kind of vanishing spell?"
Zaid rolled his eyes. "Ok, you know how to do it. Now teach me."
"You should have learned it last year." Lori scolded. "Maybe don't stare heart eyes at Cho Chang."
"Shut it!" Zaid looked around nervously.
Merla laughed. "He falls in love with every woman he meets."
"Don't worry, I'll never fancy the likes of either of you two. Unless you tutor me, Merla?" He shot puppy dog eyes at her, even his lower lip stuck out like a baby.
A group of students who were walking past heard the sentence. "Merla? You're tutoring again?" She looked up to see Seamus and Dean. "If so, I really need help with potions!" Seamus laughed. Merla rolled her eyes. When did he not.
Just her luck, Professor Dumbledore happened to be passing by. "Oh, Miss Malfoy? Tutoring students again? How incredibly kind of you."
Merla gave him a tight lip smile and nodded. Zaid received the dirtiest of side eyes. "Hey. No hard work goes without recognition. I'll award Slytherin one point for every student you help a day."
"Alright then!" Merla stood up. "Let's go study children." She wrapped her arm around Seamus' shoulder and another Gryffindor boy. "Oh, hi Harry!"
"Just have them sign their names, Miss Malfoy!" Dumbledore called out to her.
