BETA JENSON

My eyes stayed on the doorway, where Alphs Samson left.

I felt Savage and Samson's rage when the doctor told us what the hell was going on with their mate. The doctor's fear gave it away, but I needed him to calm down, and if running helps, then so be it.

"Beta," the doctor called out, making me look at him with a frown. "I know this is hard to hear, but the alpha needs to be with the Luna. She will need his strength and—"

"I know that," I muttered, moving my head to the side. "The alpha is more or less pissed at what you were telling him."

The doctor nodded and looked at me. "She's in a bad way," he murmured, making me tense. "Whatever she went through, it happened for years."

"Twelve years," Ava blurted out, making me look at her with wide eyes. Ava looked between the both of us and then at the ground. "I can't tell you anything else."

The whimper that escaped her lips made my heart break.

Turning to face her, I placed my hand in hers. "We will find a way to get you out of the alpha command," I muttered, glancing back toward the doctor. His eyes met mine, but I could see the realization dawn on him as I stared at him. I shook my head, making sure he didn't speak a word, but he gave me a knowing look.

"Doctor," I said, looking back at Ava. "Can you have someone to look over my mate?"

Ava's face darted up and bore back at me. Her eyes widened. "I don't need—" she muttered, but I moved toward her, her scent hitting my nose hard, making Luke stir in my head. Ignoring his movement, I smiled at her. "I know you're fine," I said. "But I would like to make sure—"

"You want to talk to the doctor?" Ava blurted, her face hardening.

I stared at her, but Luke moved closer, taking her in. "Her wolf told her what she can feel from us," he muttered. "Don't fuck this up for us. Tell her the truth. She will understand."

Damn, wolf, always interfering.

"I will when it comes to our mate," he muttered, making me ignore him again.

I let out a sigh and looked at Ava. He was right. I needed to tell her the truth. "Ava," I said, holding her hand and gently smoothing over her knuckles while I spoke to her. "I want him to check you over to make sure you're fine, but it is also to find out if he knows how to get rid of an alpha command."

Ava stared at me blankly. I knew she was talking to her wolf, but I needed her to know I would never hurt her. I wanted to do what was best for her and our Luna. "Ava, please," I murmured. "I need you to do this, not just for you, but for our Luna. We need answers to what you know."

Ava's eyes softened at the mere mention of the Luna. "Alora will be Luna?" she asked, not as a question. Her eyes went between the doctor and me. "I never thought of it—" she said but stopped.

There was a long pause, and she let out a sigh. "I will go with you," she said with a small smile, looking toward the doctor. "I have a few injuries from training, but they should have healed by now."

I felt my stomach churn and looked toward the doctor, who was now nodding. "That will be fine, Beta," he said, which made Ava tense. "Beta?" she asked, which made me look at her with a smile. "Yes, my love," I said, bringing her hand to my lips and kissing her knuckles. "You're mated to me. I'm the Beta of the pack, which means you will be at the side of our Luna."

Ava stared at me momentarily when the corners of her lips pulled up in another smile. Damn goddess, she had a beautiful smile. "I get to be with Alora," she asked, which made me grin and just tell her yes.
