ALPHA SAMSON

It felt like time stood still when we waited in the waiting room.

There was still no sign of the doctor.

Savage hadn't stopped moving around. He soon gave up and sat down while I kept my eyes on the door. Knowing it wasn't for us, every movement outside made my heart sink. Voices reached our ears, but they didn't concern Alora.

What the hell was taking so long?

Everyone stayed quiet. Jenson left a few times to get coffee and food for us, but I couldn't stomach anything. All I wanted to know was what was happening with my mate.

There were a few whispers, but I knew Jenson was talking to Ava. I knew he was trying to get more from her, but she kept quiet. I looked over a few times and spotted her looking at me. Her eyes would dart down to the floor.

"She wants to talk," Savage muttered, but I ignored him and Ava. I had my eyes back on the door again, praying for news.

Movement from the other side of the room made me look toward Paul, who seemed tensed. My eyes dropped to what he was looking at, which was his lap. I frowned.

What the hell was that cat doing here?

"Why is that thing sitting on your lap?" Oliver hissed.

"I have no clue," he muttered, trying to make it move off him, but the damn stubborn little rodent wouldn't move.

Savage moved closer and huffed, but Ava's voice pulled me out of my little stump. "It may be her only friend in that cell," she whispered, making all four grown-ass men look at her confused.

Ava stared at the cat but continued. My eyes went to the damn thing, but it stared at me. His yellow eyes never left mine, but Ava's words echoed around the small room. "She had no one," she muttered. "No one was allowed to see her, especially my family. The command stated it."

Tensing that the word, Savage growled, but I ignored him. "She had no one," she whispered again, making me look at her. A lone tear escaped. "It must have come in when we were all in the pack house at night or something.," she said. "Whenever Beck was there, he would state that there was a little friend she would talk to, but he never mentioned a cat."

That was odd. Why would a cat befriend a wolf?

Shaking my head, I had to think. We needed to know so much, but only two people could tell us. One was under a command, and the other was in a state. There had to be a way for Ava to tell us, but I knew I had to find out from someone, but it had to be away from any pack associated with Alpha Karl.

I opened a mind link to Paul and Oliver. "I need you two to do something for me," I said, making them look at me. "I need you to find out how to break an alpha command. Find someone without links to Alpha Karl and meet me in the office when you do."

They nod, but I close the mind link to Oliver but keep the link open just for Paul. "Find a box or carrier to put that little rodent in," I muttered. "It will probably be someone's dessert if it roams freely around here."

Paul chuckled.

"I will," he said. "The little bugger won't leave me alone."

I said nothing and closed the link down.

Oliver and Paul moved, but the cat jumped off and walked away from Paul, heading toward me. I watched this little thing jump onto my lap and snuggle into my side.

What the hell?

I hated cats. Have nothing against them, but I am a damn wolf—a big one at that.

Sensing eyes on me, I grunted. "Don't," I gritted out, not looking at any of them. My eyes stayed on the damn thing. The little thing yawned and placed his head on his front paws. He was fluffy, but there was something about him.
