Chapter 12

Every single pack member was chanting murderer, which made me wonder who the hell was killed.

I felt a presence behind me, but knowing it was my Beta, I didn't bother turning around. "Alpha," he murmured, close to me. "He's on the phone. He wants answers."

Without looking, I let out a sigh. I knew I couldn't talk about anything here. Not with Alpha Karl and his friends. It was hard to even leave to do my own thing with those three idiots around.

"Tell him I will ring him when we have left," I murmured, looking around until they landed on Alpha Karl, Alpha Lawrence, and Alpha Jeremy, who seemed to be in talks. "It's not safe to talk about it here. I will meet you by the car in a few minutes."

My beta said nothing, but stepped away to talk to him. He would understand. This was the whole reason I was here, this stupid and barbaric ceremony that the old fool held to show off his son.

Alpha Karl looked around, his eyes on some pack members. I kept my eyes on him. There was something about the way some of his pack members acted that had my wolf and me on edge. For most of the ceremony, my wolf blocked out the noise and me from making him come. He hated this whole human feisco. It was hard to control him, but he let his guard down when the young alpha Samson joined as one with his wolf.

The man was impressive and more powerful than any alpha here in this damn pack. He can put every one of them to shame. I heard about his wolf being a beast, and the human part was the same.

"ALL PACK MEMBERS BACK HOME," Alpha Karl shouted, pulling me from my thoughts. "NOW!"

I watched every pack member disperse away from where they were, watching the alpha take who was to be his mate. Whoever she was, was in a bad way. I could smell the blood from where I was standing, and knowing that she was in a rough way, it made me wonder what kind of alpha would punish a human-like Alpha Karl did.

I caught hold of her scent, which was familiar to me. But it wasn't for the person I was looking for, there was no sign. I heard through the other Alphas that Alpha Karl had taken a new Luna, but he hadn't informed Luna's family about it. I knew them, and they were pissed to learn from outside sources.

An image of the woman that Alpha Samson's beta was carrying came flooding back. I couldn't see her face, which was hard to see when the beta was carrying her. I needed to know who she was, but I had to wait.

If the human survives, then I will look into it, but for now, I have to drop the whole thing and head back home for them to know what I found.

Turning around, I headed toward my car, only to hear my name being called out. "Alpha Martin," Alpha Karl called out, which made me grimace. I hated this guy, but playing up to his idiotic ways was something I knew I had to do to learn more.

I spin around and look at him. Placing a fake smile on my lips, I grinned. "Sorry," I said when the old man came toward me and stopped. "I was talking with my wolf, and then my gamma mind linked to tell me I have to make my way back."

Alpha Karl nodded, not noticing the lies that came out of my mouth.

"I hope all is okay at your pack," he asked, looking at me slightly concerned.

"Yes," I said. "I just need to be back to see my Luna and family. There is an event tonight for one og the gamma's sons."

Alpha Karl nodded again and sighed. "That's nice," he said. "So, you are leaving now?"

I gave him a slight nod. "Yes," I said, moving my head to the side. "It will take me a few hours to get back home, and I need to make sure I sleep before I get back."
