TSUGIKUNI YORIICH:
the ghost
↪ song: daylight by david kushner.
❝even though we were together for most of the story, it still felt like we had our distances; boundaries we dared to not cross. but now, here with you; suddenly it doesn't feel like we're different worlds apart.❞

Y/N hummed as they stirred the pot of soup, gripping the long wooden spoon not too tightly, nor too gently that it would fall into the pot. A metal band around their left hand's ring finger glinted in the sun that was shining through the kitchen window.
"I wonder when he'll be home...? It's already gone ten minutes passed his usual timing..." Y/N mumbled to themself, only to be startled upon hearing the door open and close.
"Y/N?"
Hearing him call their name, Y/N smiled at Yoriichi's voice.
"In the kitchen, darling,"
A small noise came from where Yoriichi was coming from, making Y/N's smile widen, knowing just who was with him.
"Yes yes, they're in there..." They heard Yoriichi mumble as he took his coat off and put it on the coatrack.
Putting the soup on to simmer, Y/N turned around just as their bundle of joy ran up to them and jumped into their arms.
"Well, if it isn't my two favourite human beings," Y/N grinned, making sure to hold (d/n) properly, making sure she was comfy. Pecking their daughter on the forehead, then giving Yoriichi a peck on the lips. "How was the park? Did everything go well for the daughter-father time?"
Yoriichi smile softly upon hearing his daughter giggle, putting his hands under her armpits and lifting her into the air, smile turning into a full-blown grin. "We had tons of fun, didn't we?!"
(D/n)'s giggles filled the room, like bells chiming in the wind; Y/N felt their heart warm over like a fireplace.
"Good, I'm glad," Y/N chuckled, turning back to the food. "Dinner should be ready soon."
Yoriichi sniffed the air - their daughter copying him cutely - and hummed, "It smells good."
"Go set the table, darling," Y/N shooed him away, wanting to focus so the soup didn't burn - not like last time, thank you very much - and stirred the soup one more before grabbing three bowls - one tiny one, two bigger ones.
Yoriichi let the little one down in the child's chair, making sure she was comfortable before walking over to Y/N and wrapping his arms around their waist and letting his head rest of their shoulder.
Raising one hand to pat his hair, Y/N sighed in content. After a few peaceful moments, Yoriichi kissed their cheek before moving away to grab some spoons.
Y/N stared at the pot of soup with a distracted smile; they never thought something like this would become true. Not in a million years, yet they were forever grateful for Yoriichi.
"My dream was to live a quiet life with my family. A small home was fine. I wanted to sleep with our futons side by side, a distance where I could see the faces of my loves ones. A distance close enough to immediately grab their hands if I reached out. That would have been enough for me, but even that would never come true."
Y/N smiled; those words had come to them in a dream - or a memory? - after meeting Yoriichi and they had known that voice to be him; they didn't know when, or how... but...
"You're dream came true, Yoriichi, you have nothing to worry about this time around." Y/N murmured to themself.
