This life, it's terrible. Nobody should be forced to live like this, but it's not like we sometimes have a choice.
So today I'm escaping in high hopes of starting a new life. Since I'm not a werewolf I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be stopped by the neighboring pack. But, the real problem is, is the "pack" I'm in now; taking me in when I was only ten just to have a punching bag. Once I got older the abuse became more physical, forever scarring my life.
A shiver went down my spine and I leaned against the cold stone walls. Pushing my dark memories away as I thought of my escape plan, which wouldn't be easy.
One, it'd be impossible to run from a pack of wolves.
Two, I'm entirely too weak, only limited to 3 meals a week.
Three, Zach has eyes everywhere.
Zach. The horrid name made me shiver. The son of the Alpha who took me in, he was the same age as I and would watch his father as he hurt me. His father wasn't as bad as Zach is now, I tell myself because his father had more sense. But then I anger myself for defending the awful man.
Sometimes I hate how nice I am. Even when his father died I felt slightly sad, I guess because he was some type of father figure towards me.
I mentally slap myself for distracting myself from my escape plan. Focus, Cara.
I flinch back farther in to the wall, if possible, when the dungeon door opens, letting in a flood of outdoor light, stinging my eyes. Zach struts down the steps with a pair of shades on as if he was taking a afternoon stroll through New York City or something. Not like I would know though, I grew up in Arkansas.
Any girl would say he was stunningly handsome, he was attractive but after years of knowing him most would think differently.
He brushed his brown hair away from his piercing grey eyes that were piercing me behind his shades. His long legs reached me in no time at all; I shrunk down on the ground not facing him. Which was a mistake, he is my Alpha and he didn't like it when I showed no respect. He grabbed my shoulder roughly, making my shoulder blades slam against the dirty, cold floor. I cried out shutting my eyes tightly as tears threatened to fall. Stay strong.
"Open your eyes, and don't make me ask twice." Zach spoke sharply.
I peeked open my eyes as he tore off his shades; his grey eyes piercing me. It always felt like he was looking into your soul trying to find something that could destroy you. I tore my eyes away from his and looked at his forehead instead. He growled at this but said nothing. Instead he fiercely grabbed my upper arm and dragged me to my feet, which was hard for me because of my lack of getting on my feet and walking. I'm usually just locked down here and left, occasionally getting out showering or doing a chore.
He dragged me towards the cellar door that led outside. I was grateful; finally I get a chance to run. But where am I gonna get the courage? Once my feet touched the soft green grass I inwardly sighed making sure I didn't show Zach my pleasure. He didn't seem to notice my change in mood and continued dragging me towards the pack house, which only means something's going to happen to me.
I looked up at Zach's 6'2 figure and studied his face. He was obviously think of something else. Here's my chance.
I fidgeted with my hands until I curled them into a weak fist. I reached up and punched Zach in the face, he didn't let go of my wrist, but I was prepared. I sliced me hand down on his forearm, right where his elbow was. He cried out and let go. That's when I ran, ran blindly through the woods and twigs. I knew the border line wasn't far; I was a great eavesdropper so I knew about almost everything that happened. I heard his feet running after me, I knew I wasn't fast and so did he, that's why he was still in human form. Thank God. I darted left quickly to hopefully gain distance ahead of him which slightly worked. I could see the border ahead, its shimmering wall. Since I wasn't a werewolf I could easily jump through the transparent wall into the next pack, The BlackNight pack. Once I got through there I planned on going through the WolfsBane pack into the town, which name was unknown to me.
As soon as my fingertips passed through the glimmering wall my right ankle was fiercely jerked and I was jerked to the ground. I looked back catching glimpses of Zach's angry face through my blood matted hair. I kicked my left leg out nailing him in the nose, he reached out to snag my free leg, but I quickly jerked it back towards his face again. He cried out an agitated cry and let go of my right leg. I quickly scrambled to the other side of the border.
Getting to my feet and looking back through the shimmering wall accomplishment flashed through me. But I knew it wouldn't be this easy, soon Zach would call the BlackNight pack saying a rogue of his got loose onto their property.
Zach let out a frustrated scream and shifted running back to the pack house I assumed. I turned around and sprinted across the BlackNight's land. Luckily for me the pack wasn't big so the land was only about a mile in width. You're too weak to run a mile. The negative part of me said in the back of my mind. I can do this.
Luckily for me I came from a family line of track runners. I could easily run two miles if I was healthy, but now one mile was even pushing it.
I sighed and took off in a sprint, saying over and over what my dad always told me in my head. 'Giving up is for the weak. Even if you're at your weakest always have hope that you'll make it'
I tear dripped down on my cheek, not bothering to wipe it I continued on my sprint. After making it far I only had about 50 yards till the next border. I could hear a howl of a wolf behind me not too far. But I didn't let fear over take me, instead I ran faster. From the corner of my eye I could see a brown wolf running beside me from a distance snarling its teeth.
20 yards.
15 yards.
10 yards.
5 yards.
One more step!I screamed as I saw the brown wolf launch for me. I jumped up hoping I would reach the border line before the wolf caught me. I hit the ground crying out as I heard my ankle pop. I heard a snarl inches away from me. This is it. My life is over, if I get back into the hands of Zach. I peeked open my eyes to see the yellow eyes of the brown wolf staring at me. I then caught a glimpse of the shimmering almost invisible wall separating us.
I let out a puff of air, relaxing. I escaped Zach's allying pack. I looked back at the brown wolf as it snarled. Suddenly it looked above me and it's ears dropped, it's tail going between his legs. It slowly backed up and howled turning around and taking off in a sprint. It was seriously scared. But I know not because of me so who-?
"I found the rogue." A deep voice came behind me, making me shiver in delight.
I then scrambled to my feet still facing away from the man when realization hit me. I was in the territory of the Wolfsbane pack. The most powerful wolf pack in America.
