I froze, my hand still outstretched toward the door. I brought my hand back to my side, breathing heavily, "Hold on a sec. I gotta get dressed."
I let go of the towel and put some undergarments on along with Devon's athletic tee and some nike short-shorts I'm guessing he laid out for me.
I hesitantly walked back to the door running my fingers through my damp hair. I sighed deeply as my hand reached the door knob and began to turn it.
After the door was fully open I stood in the entryway, my nerves reaching my hands, which made them begin to shake.
I folded my hands together as I studied Devon's mom. Her hair was up in a pony tail- making her look about my age surprisingly- she wore a long, blue summer dress along with some brown gladiator sandals. If someone didn't know who she was she could be easily mistaken for a 20 year old.
"Sorry to bother you, but I wanted to chat. May I come in?" She asked smoothly.
"Yes. U-um have a seat." She walked in quickly and took a seat on the edge of the bed. I shut the door behind her and stood on the other side of the room, keeping my distance from her and wishing Devon were here.
She frowned at me then replaced it with a cold smile, "I see you ran into Zach today."
"How did you-" I started, but was cut off by a dismissive wave.
"I know everything, darling. Especially if I helped plan it." She smiled evilly.
"You're the one who let Zach in? How could you?" I gasped out.
"Simple," she checked her manicured nails as if bored, "I've wanted to be Alpha for a long time, and I'm not going to let some broken human girl get in my way. After I got rid of Devon I planned on taking the title once and for all. When a werewolf has found their mate they become ten times stronger, but their mate also makes them weak.
Which is why I talked to Zach about my plan: to take Devon down." She laughed then stood up, making her way to me.
I gulped, "Why? Why do you want to be Alpha so bad?"
"For the feeling of power, my dear. Being a Luna isn't as powerful as some might think it is. Having to follow the Alphas orders, then showing kindness to everyone and everything. It's not fun, really." Mindy said, as she twirled her finger around a lock of my hair.
I flinched at her touch, "Devon is expecting me."
"I'm sure he is," she let go of my hair and walked towards the door, "This will not be the last time we talk."
The door slammed shut after her, and after I unfolded my sweaty hands and rubbed them against Devon's shirt, I walked to the bed and lied flat on my back.
That talk was very unsettling and quiet frightening. What she said confused me and what she believed in got me even more confused. How could she believe such a thing? And would she really destroy her son and his mate to get the Alpha title? Because from what I heard being the Alpha isn't all that fun either.
I need to talk to Devon about this. She didn't say I couldn't. So why not?
I rushed out the door and down the stairs to Devon's office. I knocked on the door once.
"Come in Cara." Devon spoke, with his deep, perfect voice.
I closed the door behind me and sat in one of his big couches. He raised an eyebrow at me, "What's up?"
"Well, after I took a shower someone stopped by and talked to me."
Devon sat up straighter and tightened his jaw, "If it was Zach-"
"No," I cut him off, "It was uh, actually your mom."
"My mom?" Devon asked as he gestured for me to come to him.
I got off the couch and walked over to him, sitting on his lap as he played with the strands of my hair, "She told me some interesting stuff."
Devon sighed dramatically, "Tell me everything."
