I awoke on a soft bed. I gripped the sheets with my hands tightly and curled my toes. I was in pure bliss. I don't know why really, but I felt comfortable. Like a new woman.
Something's feet pattered on the hard wood floor and I sat up to see what it was. I barley caught a glimpse of its slick, black tail before it disappeared behind the other side of the bed.
A cat?
I peeked underneath the bed and surely enough there was a black cat licking its paws.
That's strange. A werewolf owning a cat?
"I didn't think dogs and cats got along." I laughed aloud.
"That's a cliché myth, my dear. If you wanna call it that." The voice paused.
The voice sounded familiar but I couldn't quiet put a finger on it.
"You're a cat," the male voice whispered,"I'm a dog, and I obviously get along with your kitty-kat."
I sucked in a breath, only one person would make a sexual comment like that. I began to worry. I still had my head dangling off the bed, refusing to look at the man.
Fingers forcefully wrapped in my hair and jerked my head back, "Look at me, sweetheart."
Once my head flung back I caught a look at him. My only nightmare.
Zach.
"What are you doing here?" I hissed out.
"Visiting my booh-bear. Why wouldn't I?" He laughed, using an awful nickname.
"Leave. I won't tell Devon you're here. Just leave." I whimpered out. His grip on my hair loosened and he flung my head forward.
I caught my balance before I tumbled to the ground and sat up straight, facing him.
Zach looked different, paler. His fingernails were bitten to the stub and he was beginning to grow a rather disgusting looking beard.
I gasped when I looked at his face. His eyes were blood shot and had dark rings around them. His hair was also growing longer, covering his ears completely.
"Taking in what I have become, huh," he harshly said to me, "You've done this to me."
"You forced me away. You were cruel to me," I pointed an accusing finger at him, "you abused me. I'm happy where I am currently. Leave now and spare your life. Devon will kill you in seconds."
"Not that you would mind though." He barked out.
I stayed silent. It was true. It would bring peace to me if he was dead, but there was another part of me that said he could redeem himself and move on.
"I'm not really here, anyways. You're dreaming. Werewolf's can do that with some power: visit someone's dreams. I'm becoming weak so this might be the last time I visit you."
"You're a monster." I stated, ignoring his 'power' talk.
"Call me what you like, but I'll be back."
Whistling began outside of the room, and the window curtains blew around furiously. I shot my head toward the direction of the window when I lightning bolt struck the ground. I turned back towards Zach.
But...he was no longer there. He just disappeared. I sighed dramatically and laid my head back, 'I'll be back.' I shivered at the last thing he told me and screamed loudly.
I reached my hand out and grabbed the pillow next to me, slamming my face into it. Surprisingly it seriously hurt and I brought my head back up with my eyes closed and began to cradle my head.
Something moaned next to me and my eyes shot open.
Lying next to me was Devon. I guess i woke up. His eyes were closed and his eyebrows were knitted in pain. I covered my mouth and stifled a giggle, "I'm so sorry." I dragged out.
Devon sat up straight and rubbed his chest where my head had slammed down onto. He groggily opened his eyes and wiped the sleep out of them, "I'm not much of a morning person, ya know?" He moaned out, grumpily.
"I-I didn't mean to! I thought you were a pillow!" I confessed, and began to rub his chest with my hand.
He let out a humorous laugh and looked at me. His hair was laying messily on his head and his eyes were barley open. And his voice-oh his morning voice sent chills throughout my body.
"I'm pretty sure I feel nothing like a pillow."
I giggled and ran my fingers through his hair, confidence began to run through me for some reason. In my dream I told myself a felt like a new woman, I guess it's true.
Devon sighed and closed his eyes, leaning his head to my touch.
I began to comb his hair while he absentmindedly flopped back onto the bed. Snores escaped his lips and I laughed softly. I continued to run my hand through his hair, it obviously calmed him and I liked that I now knew how to take away his pain.
I rested my elbow on his pillow and place my head on his shoulder, my hand still in his hair. My chest rubbed against Devon's chest, and I blushed, but didn't move. I took my free hand and rubbed circles against his exposed chest.
I felt safe around him and all thoughts escaped my mind of Zach until I looked across the room towards the window into the setting sun. The wind suddenly picked up and in the distance I heard a lightning bolt struck the Earth. That's when my conversation with Zach began to repeat in my head.
