I sit here on a dock, with my feet dangling off the edge, skimming the river water.

I think about Zach.

I think about Devon.

I think about Lacy.

I think about both packs. Growing up differently; taught to be fierce, yet smart.

It confused me that I haven't heard any word or gossip of Zach. It should relax me but it doesn't, it just means he's planning something.

Something bad-

"You must be Cara." A soft voice says behind me.

I jerk my head back to the sudden noise and my eyes meet an older woman in a long grey dress. It was somewhat awkward how plain the dress was, and how much life was basically glowing off the woman.

"Yes ma'am, I am." I replied, with the best act of confidence I could muster. Even though her eyes were piercing a hole through me.

"Manners. That's pleasant to here," she pauses and smiles, "around here anyways."

Her words confused me and I knew she could tell. Her smile grew wider and caused laughter lines around her eyes, "I am Mindy. Devon's mother."

My breath catches in my throat and I almost choke on it. This lady that I just met, who wasn't being so kind to me is my mates mother.

I suddenly stand up and wipe my hands on Devon's shirt. Which is the only thing I was wearing, "It's very nice to meet you, Mindy." I outstretch my hand hoping she'd take it, but she doesn't. She looks at it like it carried a disease, and she didn't want to risking taking it.

I drop my hand and intertwine my fingers together nervously.

"Wish I could say the same, Luna Cara." She says with some sass.

I gulp and nod, not knowing exactly what to do.

"Well, I'll be on my way," she pauses and the evil smirk returns, "tell Devon I stopped by and met you. I'd love to see his reaction when you tell him. But, I don't enjoy being in his presence."

She turns her shoulder while flipping her hair and struts off.

That was probably the most awkwardest conversation I've ever had. It scared me too also, even though she didn't really say anything to me worth while.

I really needed the comfort of my mate now.

Once she is out of sight I sprint back into the pack house into Devon's' office.

"Devon." I burst in, out of breath.

He is seated behind a desk that looks awfully small compared to his large frame. He is in deep thought and his forehead is crinkled. When he sees me his eyes lighten up and I feel much better and safe. My encounter with his mom effected me more than I thought.

"Yes, Cara?" He asks politely.

"I..I met your," I pause and think back to her words 'I'd love to see the look on his face'," Mother."

A growl escaped from his lips and he slowly sat up from his chair. He walked around his desk dangerously, straight to me. My instincts kicked in and I backed up into the nearest corner of the room.

Thoughts of Zach appeared into my mind and what he did to me. But this was my mate, he wouldn't do that. However, this still didn't stop the whimper that escaped my lips after I backed up against the wall.

The noise didn't stop him but I could tell it effected him somehow. His eyes softened and he relaxed his broad shoulders.

Once he found his way to me in the corner he stopped walking and stood in front of me.
