Nearing the end of November, Sophia has fully settled into Slytherin. She's aware that most of them still don't like her but she tries to ignore them going about her day, she has a couple of friends and that's enough.

She still hasn't plucked up the courage to research her past yet but that is her plan for the weekend. The questions she has are becoming too strong for her to ignore.

It's late evening and she lies in bed unable to sleep. She's been tossing and turning for the past hour but all her brain can think about is what she could find out.

Sighing in frustration she pushes her covers back and tiptoes towards the door taking Apollo with her. Students aren't allowed to leave their houses after 9pm but there's nothing to say she can't sit in the common room.

As she thought the common room is empty, dropping into one of the chairs by the window she watches the fish and other water creatures that live in the black lake. The Slytherin common room is mostly under the water and it gives the room a green tint.

She's sat curled up with Apollo on her lap for a good half an hour, her eyes starting to feel heavy before she hears footsteps padding down the dorm steps.

Looking towards the sound she sees Malfoy and as he reaches the bottom step he spots her sitting in the chair, "What are you doing down here?"

She sighs, "I could ask you the same thing. But do me a favour this once and be civil I'm too tired to argue."

His frown softens and he lets his guard down a bit knowing no one else is around, "I'm looking for my tie, I took it off earlier while I was down here and forgot to pick it up again, you?"

Surprised he cares she answers, "Can't sleep."

"How come?" He sits in the chair across from her.

Sophia does a double take and checks the rest of the room for people who might be watching for a prank, "I think you know the main reason and the other is private. Why are you talking to me?"

He sighs this time, "Because despite what you might think I don't completely hate you."

"Don't let your girlfriend hear you say that or your minions. They might think I've bewitched ya," She smiles a little when he huffs a laugh.

"If you mean Pansy she's not my girlfriend despite what she thinks, she's annoying and clingy. You know you might have an easier time in Slytherin if you didn't hang around with Granger."

That light-hearted moment fades as quickly as it began, "I am aware of that but she is my friend and I'd like it to stay that way. She's a good friend and she has kept me from going to Dumbledore's office and asking him to send me back home," She pauses to gather her thoughts before continuing her rant.

"Even if I stopped hanging around with Hermione, they'd still hate me because of my blood status which I think is disgusting for you to judge people for that. It wasn't my choice to be born to a muggle family any more than it was your choice to be born to a pureblood one. You hate me for something that I have no control over. I only found out about this world three months ago, I've had to adjust to a new world and a new school without any help from my parents because they know nothing about this world and you wonder why I struggle to sleep at night," She feels tears forming in the corners of her eyes so looks away, she can't cry, she's a Slytherin for God's sake.

"That's why I don't hate you," He turns to the window himself, "I only hate you so that the word doesn't get back to my father that I'm friends with a muggleborn."

She's overheard the stories about Draco's father, "It's for appearances?"

"Yeah, it's for appearances. The three months is that when you got your letter?"
