Victor
Hmph, some things didn't add up. I just couldn't my finger on what the fuck was going on. I violently tossed the letter to the side, storming across my house to the window. Tsk, how could this be happening? Aria has a vampire boyfriend. I watched him go back to his truck and get their backpacks as she twisted the key to unlock her door. I could make it there before she even unlocks the door. That's all it would take. Just a second and his neck would be snapped and her memory would be erased, but I cursed myself. You can't intrude on her happiness. I couldn't shake the haunting thought that he would do something to her.
"Just leave it alone," I tried to tell myself and closed the blinds. Dammit. I fired up a cigarette to calm me down but it wasn't working. "Fuck it," I grabbed my jacket and slammed my door, slinging the cigarette away on the pavement.
I knocked thrice before Aria's little boyfriend welcomed me. "Well, where's aria?" My eyes glided behind him looking for her.
"What do you want?" He ignored my question.
"Why don't you invite me in?" I glared at the brat.
He gave me a cunning smile, "No." He shut the door in my face."Little fucker," I whispered under my breath. I was about to go but I heard her lively footsteps approaching the door. The door creaked open, "Mr. Vic! What brought you over?"
I didn't know the answer to that myself. I thought of a quick lie, "I came to cook for you. For old time's sake. You left too fast earlier before I could ask," I flashed her a smile.
"That's wonderful," the fresh smell of her soap drifted in the air and then I pieced it together. She had been in the shower and that's why the brat answered the door. I looked at Aria in her little blue shorts and white tank top. Then I looked to Jake and his mischievous smile irked me.
"Can I come in or are we going to stand here all day?" I jester.
"Sorry," Aria opened the door wider and let me in.
"What do you fancy today?" I asked Aria, settling my jacket on the coat hanger by the door.
"Anything is fine," her dimples popped and she led me to kitchen. Obviously, Jack had remodeled because it wasn't like I remembered. "Alot of changes," I mused."Yes. Plenty. He repainted everything the beginning of this year and he widened my room. I even got a newer bigger closet," she beamed as she retrieved the skillets. I took the time to watch her stand on her tiptoes and I smirked. I dried my hands and I found what I needed to make a meal in their fridge. "Now that you're here I can question you about everything. What was everything like? And don't say you were too busy to go sightseeing."
I chuckled, "It was amazing princess." She swiveled in the chair, watching me as I pranced in her kitchen tending to the meal. "The lights at night from high above is something so beautiful, leaves you breathless and appreciating life." I slid the pan of bread in the oven.
"The people?" She wanted me to continue and she stalked next to me, eagerly awaiting my response.
"I don't know," I admitted. Her shoulders slumped before her face brightened again, "Well how was work? What was your favorite part of the whole trip? Where did you even go?" She bombarded me with inquiries."Wouldn't you love to know," I stirred the soup.
"I asked Dad if you were always like this and he told me he didn't know you all that well either. That you keep to yourself," Aria confessed. "It sounds so crazy to me. I feel like I know you sometimes," Aria blabbed. "But.." she faltered and just fell into the silence. She exited my space and took a seat, quietly watching me.I sighed. I had no choice but to give in; seeing her down and unusually quiet tugged at the strings of my heart. "The people are passionate," she whipped her head up to look at me. Her hazel eyes had a life of sun in them as she bit her lip. "Fervent about life, food, their culture. They're emotional and sensitive and they don't hold back, but they're mostly alright. Plus, The food is amazing," I formed a chef's kiss. Her little giggle made me smile. "I learned a few meals. I'll have to cook for you one day."
"Meet anyone?" She perked up.
"No," I swiftly denied, "Can't say the same for you."
She gasped, "Well, Jake is nice."
"Is he?" I mocked. "Where is he anyway?"
Knowing he heard us, his shadow soon appeared in the doorway of the kitchen. The slight scowl on his face told me everything I needed to know. I almost couldn't contain my laughter; he couldn't stand the smell of the human food simmering and lingering in the house. "You called?" He frowned."Aren't you hungry?" I asked.
Jake shrugged, "I'll pass."Aria's gaze softened. Jake looked angry and confused. I couldn't help that I didn't feel sorry for him. "Let me make you something," I offered.
He hesitated, and I observed the slight curl and uncurl of his fists, but he eventually nodded.
"I have to go to work," Jake said, "I'll see you tomorrow, babe." He prodded forward and gave her a forehead kiss, making sure I was paying attention. He gave me a sly smirk then bent down and gave Aria a tempting, almost seductive kiss. I could hear her heartbeat speeding up and when he finally pulled away, Jake left the kitchen.I felt disgusted. If he was trying to make me jealous, he mildly succeeded. Aria was still trying to gather herself, face in full blush with her hands patting her cheeks. She slowly turned to me after recomposing herself, "Mr. Vic, I'll be right back." She stalked out of the kitchen I followed her steps with my ears. The pipes from the truck were spurting and I heard the door creak just in time to catch him.
A wave of sadness changed my mood. In my rage, I didn't feel the heat from the oven or the bread pan. I slathered some butter sauce across the bread and went to grab my jacket.
"Are you leaving?" Aria was surprised and soon saddened.
"Yes, I didn't mean to intrude. Just wanted to say hello," I donned my jacket.
"Oh, well, why don't you come back after your guests leave?"
"What guests?" I creased my brows. We looked to my house and no one was there.
"I must have been hallucinating," her face twisted in confusion. She waved it away, "Sorry. Thanks for the meal then Mr.Vic," she hugged me."You're welcome," her scent lingered on my coat when she pulled away and I happily welcomed it. "I'll cook you something special real soon," I promised. I raced home, surveying my home, making sure Aria's claims didn't go unwarranted.
The smell in the air told me different. Someone had been here. And I didn't even hear them. Probably because I was too distracted.
The lobbying trace finally graced me with an epiphany. The only idea that made sense through it all.
