SHADOW'S POV

I was awake, but my eyes stayed shut. I did not want to get out of this plush soft bed.

I caught the smell of warm fresh air from our open window. When I sniffed the breeze I felt something tickling the end of my nose. I furrowed my brow and wrinkled my muzzle to prevent myself from sneezing. I lifted my eyelids to peek and saw a blue ear settled in front of my face with fur blowing slightly in the morning breeze.

Sonic laid wrapped around me, using me as his personal body pillow.
I puffed air into his ear, and it flicked back into my nose. "Hey," I snapped,"Get up!"
"No!" He spoke up, sounding like he had already been wide awake. Did he stay up another whole night?
"I need to get up," I told him, trying to adjust myself.
"I need to embrace you." He squeezed me tighter, making it more difficult to breathe.
"Not right now," I pried my arms between us and pushed him off.

I sat up catching my breath, "there is no reason for you to be right on top of me when I'm asleep." I looked over at him, and noticed he had developed bags under his eyes. "Are you even getting enough sleep?" I asked, concerned.
"Sleep? Who needs sleep?" He said, tilting his head with one lazy eye lid.
"You do, obviously. You can't keep pushing yourself to stay awake that long, you're going to go insane." That was a strange statement for me to say, since he was already there.

He stared at me with big round begging eyes, "but if I go to sleep then the fun will end."
He looked... so cute.
I threw a pillow at his face. "Oof" was his reaction. I refused to let him have the satisfaction of knowing I was admiring the look on his face.

I stood up and closed our window. I began to dress myself while wondering how I was going to get him back on a normal and more routine sleep schedule.
Then I remembered that I had Blaze's number for if I ever needed help with anything.

I walked to the entrance of our home. "Where are you going?" Sonic asked.
I gave him a firm tone pointing my thumb to the door, "I'm taking a phone call outside, and I might smoke while I'm out there. You stay inside. I don't want to think about you running off while I'm busy."
"I wanna come with you!" He whined.
I rolled my eyes at him, "I'll be right outside our window. You can stare at me from there"
He raised his arms up and cheered. "Yay!"

I walked around to the side of the house to my usual spot. I took my lighter from the window sill and cupped my hand around the flame to light my cigarette. I looked up past my fingers and saw him peeking his head up from the bottom of the window pan. It was like he was trying to hide while spying on me, but his ears and the top of his quills made it hard to not notice his azure figure. It was annoying, but also entertaining to watch him.

"Whatever," I turned around, taking out my phone.
Blaze answered after a few rings, "hello?"
"Hey, uh," what do I even ask? "Well, Sonic has been having a hard time going to sleep, is there anything I could do or give him?"
"Tea?" She suggested.
I looked back at Sonic who was shaking with energy, "I may need something a bit stronger."
"They make melatonin gummies to help some people relax and go to sleep. They sell them at many local stores, and anyone can buy them."
"Alright I'll try that out. Thanks." With that, I hung up and took a long drag from my smoke before heading back in.

When I opened the door I was greeted with a tight hug. He nuzzled his face into my chest wagging his tail, "I missed you."
I patted his head, "you act like I have been gone for days." Even though this was getting tiresome, it still felt nice feeling this important to someone.

"Hey, so, we need to go out and grab something." I informed him.
He perked up, "Sweet, another trip to town."
"Yes, and I need you to not hurt anyone this time. Can I trust you?" I asked, raising one brow and crossing my arms.
"Yeah, yeah, of course," he said with a smirk.
I pointed at him, "I swear if you hurt anybody today I'm going to kick your ass." Not that I actually would, I truly didn't want to harm him.
He pushed my finger down with a smug look on his face, "you can trust me. I wouldn't want to do anything that could upset you."
He grabbed my hand and kissed me on the cheek, making me blush. I ignored his advances and shoved my hand into his face.
"Fine then, let's go."
