READER'S POV

Rouge followed the pair down the hall with the Commander leading the way. She understood none of this is her business, but from knowing Shadow for so long, she felt that she should be beside him for support.

During their walk through the halls, Shadow still questioned and kept no trust towards the man in front of him. He tried being hopeful for Sonic's safety considering he was offered to be led to his location as proof of his well being.
He thought that maybe things were fine after all and his temper settled the further they walked.

Their steps settled and the commander unlocked a door that led into a dark room. Three walls were bare but one was a giant glass window with light that illuminated the room.

Shadow was curious from never seeing a room like this and took the first steps inside. He stood where he could observe what was being shown on the other side of the glass wall and what he saw left him too stunned to speak.

This was a two way mirror that shined light from the room on the opposite side, a room that showed Surge "correcting" or punishing criminal behavior.

And Shadow could not believe the sight he saw.

Sonic was tied to a chair with his head hung low to one side. His quills stressed and his fur damaged in some spots. He looked exhausted and beaten with no glow in his eyes.

Shadow was in disbelief and turned towards the Commander that had followed him in, "This is not humane! Sonic is not fine! Look at him!" The hedgehog said, pointing through the window at the scene unfolding.

As the Commander spoke to defend himself, Shadow heard none of it and found himself distracted by Surge who was approaching Sonic again. Shadow's pupils had shrunk as he began to panic for Sonic's safety from the other side of the wall. He couldn't hear what Surge was saying but he assumed it was slander.

Rouge left and shut the door.

Shadow didn't process the conversation being told to him by the Commander. His only focus was Sonic.

His stomach sank as he witnessed Surge grab the blue hedgehog by his forearm and started brutally shocking him. The heart monitors spiked.
Sonic's body tensed and his agonizing screams were muffled through the thick glass.

Shadow no longer held back his composure. In a quick second he balled his fist up tightly and bared his fangs. His quills rose high and they sparked with energy. His inhibitor rings were no longer able to hold back the explosive energy Shadow held deep.

Shadow erupted and sent a chaos blast consuming the room and busting the glass that separated him from Sonic.

Surge had let go of Sonic to cover herself from the unpredictable blast, and the Commander was left on the ground nearly unconscious and unable to get up after being thrown across the room.

To Sonic it was quiet. His vision was left fuzzy and disoriented.

Lifting his head forward, Sonic raised up enough to see Shadow was in the same room as him. His heart fluttered seeing his partner beside him.

Shadow did not look like a knight in shining armor. He was focusing on letting his rage out and was consumed by the thoughts of murdering Surge. He hovered over her and repeatedly pummeled her face. Busting her nose and her arms that tried defending her face.

Sonic was excited to see Shadow, and all he wanted was to be beside him, but seeing his companion act this way sent some concern. Instead of his usually excitable greeting for his ebony hedgehog, he instead spoke in a worried voice, hoping his words could reach his partner. Using the remaining strength he had left up, Sonic whimpered, "Shadow..."
