Deanna's POV Well, it's been about two days since I got on the unit and so far so good. Commissary is coming today and I ordered a lot of stuff. Joe's been pretty generous, but I know that I have to pay him back, so that's why ordered so much stuff. Joe's been pretty cool, but I always watch him staring at me in a weird way and I can't put my finger on it. I mean, it's not a mean look, it seems like he wants to ask me something but is conflicted.
When I went to the dayroom, I saw Trinity, Jessica and the other ladies sitting at the table talking playing cards....
"What's going on Dee?" Jessica said smiling.
"Nothing much, just trying to get use to these hard bunks." I say, stretching.
"Yeah well jail was never meant to be comfortable." Trinity said shrugging.
"Not comfortable at all. I take it you've never been locked up before lassie." Becky chimed in.
"No...I haven't." I say quietly.
Bianca kissed her teeth and shook her head at me with pity...
"Girrrllll, you gonna have a lot to learn. How much time did you get?" She asked.
"Natural life." I say.
"Damn!" Rhea said. "What did you do, to get that kinda time?"
"I killed my abusive husband." I say.
"You kill husband, you no be in jail." Asuka said, shook her head.
"I know but the judge didn't see it that way, so I'm waiting for an appeal." I say.
"Good luck with that. Appeals can take years." Becky said.
The other ladies nodded in their heads in agreement. Since they had records, they would know.
"So you might as well make the best of your time. By the way, how's it going with your cellie? What's his name? The tribal king or some shit like that?" Jessica asked.
"Oh you mean Joe? He's nice, I haven't had commissary, so he said I don't have to eat those nasty state trays, so he's been sharing his commissary with me." I smile.
Jessica, Rhea, Trinity, Bianca, Becky and Asuka stopped playing cards and all looked at each other strangely, before Jessica spoke up....
"Girl, you might want to chill out taking so much commissary from him, because you know he's gonna want to be paid back with interest." Jessica warned.
"Oh I know that's why I ordered extra commissary because I owe him." I say with a small smile.
"Uh lassie.... you know what, never mind." Becky said as she looked at her cards.
