Meanwhile in Warden Heyman's Office.......
Joe was sitting in the Warden's office. Although he was calm, he was still sniffing and a few tears was running down his cheeks.
"My Tribal Chief, would you like something to drink?" Heyman asked in a low voice.
"You got some hot chocolate?" Joe asked as he wiped his eyes.
"Sure! Would you like some whipped cream? I got chocolate chip cookies or pound cake. Which one would you like?" Heyman asked.
"Can I have both? And I love whipped cream." Joe said sounding like a little kid.
"Why sure you can my tribal chief." Heyman said with a fatherly smile.
After Heyman gave Joe a big cup of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, two big chocolate chip cookies and a piece of pound cake, Joe's eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas morning.
"Wow! I haven't had this since I was a little kid. My mom always gave me hot chocolate and cookies whenever I was sad." Joe said with a sad smile reminiscing about his late mother.
"Nothing but the best for my Tribal Chief." Heyman smiled.
"You are the best wiseman. I mean that sincerely. You always know what to do to make me feel better." Joe said softly.
"So what's got you so upset really? I know you Joe, and it's has to be way more than Dr. Shareef teasing you." Heyman asked.
"I'm in love Wiseman. I mean hopelessly, madly in love, and it low key scares me." Joe said sighing.
"Why does it scare you?" Heyman asked.
"Because I'm a killer, a gang kingpin and according to some, a lowlife criminal who belongs behind bars. I had acquiesced to spend the rest of my life in lonely darkness within a 6 by 9 cell. But when the women came, it was like sunshine after a really bad storm and that's what Deanna has done to my life. Her sweet and shy personality turns me on and when she looks at me with those big beautiful brown eyes, I just melt. And the icing on the cake is that she loves me back." Joe confessed.
"My Tribal Chief...if I may speak freely. You are a normal human being, despite what anyone thinks. Being in love is a completely normal human emotion, even if you are incarcerated." Heyman explained.
"I guess you're right. It's just that I never thought that I would never see a woman again much less be near one." Joe said.
"Well....now you have your chance." Paul smiled.
"Wiseman, can you answer one question for me?" Joe asked.
"Of course, my Tribal Chief."
"What is so great about Dr. Shareef?" He inquired.
"Well, Dr. Shareef is one of the best physicians in California. She has many years of experience working in correctional institutions and has been an asset to us since the facility opened. And yes, I know she can be a little abrasive. But honestly, she has a good heart and cares about the population she serves. To be honest, she helped me get the project approved to have the women here. If it hadn't been for her and Malinda writing the proposal and taking it to the Governor and the Senate, it wouldn't have happened." Heyman explained.
Joe was shocked at this revelation. At that moment, he wanted to give Dr. Shareef a big hug, for bringing the love of his life to him. He decided at that moment, he decided that he owed her a debt of gratitude and he would never be rude to her again no matter what she said. Well, that is, as long as she doesn't try to seperate him and Deanna.
"Well thanks for everything. You are truly the Wiseman." Joe said.
"It's my pleasure and don't worry I'll have a word with Dr. Shareef. Let me get you back to the dispensary." Heyman said, as he stood up.
"You know what....its not necessary. I guess I could have tougher skin." Joe smiled as he stood to allow Heyman to escort him back.
