Prompt: "Put the knife down, I'm not going to hurt you."

~

Nightmares about being kidnapped have been keeping you up all night. Each time you managed to fall back asleep, you were thrown right back into another nightmare of being kidnapped. Never did you see the person kidnapping you. Never the same place you got kidnapped at. Never were you held at the same location.

Being one of the Avengers, the likelihood of getting kidnapped was a way higher probability than before when your hadn't joined the team yet. Maybe that was messing with your head. After two hours of lying in bed staring at your ceiling, you've had enough. You get out of bed and head to the compound kitchen, maybe a midnight snack would do you some good.

You wanted to make something simple, so you decide on some easy nachos. You get the chips ready on a plate and get some cheese out of the fridge. When you put the cheese down on the counter you hear footsteps coming from behind you. Grabbing the nearest object that you could use as a weapon, you turn around. You were going to put up a fight and not just get kidnapped without doing a thing, like in your nightmares.

There was only a dim light in the kitchen, making it so you couldn't see the intruders face. Just like in your nightmares you didn't know who was coming for you, making you fear more and more that your nightmares were some kind of warning for what was going to happen in real life.

"Get out of my kitchen, I have a knife!" You say raising your voice. The next words spoken were by the intruder, "Put the knife down, y/n, I'm not going to hurt you." It took you a moment to realize that you knew this voice. "Nat?" You ask with a shaky voice.

"Yes, y/n, it's me. It's Natasha. Nothing is going to happen, you're safe." She says after hearing how scared you sound. She knew that feeling all too well. Natasha had her own nightmares, usually about her past and you had been her for her during and after many of them. Now it was her turn to be there for you.

She turns on a light before moving towards you and taking the knife from your hand. After putting it down on the counter she pulls you in for a hug. "Come here, I've got you." She says while slowly moving her hand in soothing circles on your back.

When Natasha realized you weren't going to let her go she asked if you wanted to stay in her room for the night. You said yes, because you felt saver in her arms.

With one arm still protectively around you, she poured some of the cheese over the chips and warmed it up to melt the cheese. When your midnight snack was ready Natasha took it with you to her room.

You both sat in her bed snacking on the nachos while you talked to Natasha about your nightmares. "I will always protect you." And "If it ever happened I would find you." Were things Natasha comforted you with, but what brought you the most comfort was the fact that she was holding your hand the whole time.

When you started feeling tired again you laid down under her covers. Natasha put the plate on her nightstand and turned off the light before joining you. You turned to your side and laid your head down on her chest. Her arm wrapped around you again while she let you get comfortable. Not soon after you fell asleep to the steady rhythm of her heartbeat.
