Another week had swam by without any sign of the beautiful novitiate. As much as I tried to act like it didn't bother me, deep down, I felt my heart getting heavier at her absentism.
Every morning, I'd watch the classroom doors hoping to see the familiar head covered novitiate prancing in but each time, I gruesome disappointment embraced me. I'd put off all scandalous partying and one night stands and decided to focus on my studies as a distractive tool. I'd haunted the familiar walls of our library regularly after classes or during free period so much that I'd memorized every isle in that ancient construction. That was a huge step for me seeing as I rarely got the interest of visiting the Library . But without the familiar face of her, I decided to explore new territories.
I begun turning in my assignments earlier than I'd use to , begun reading ahead of the lecturers two chapters a day. And if that wasn't proper enough, I found myself participating in class discussions, answering questions and volunteering to teach on some occassions.
Soon the end of the semester would be lurking around the corner and I'd accomplished more than I ever thought I would in my whole academic life.To say Aaron was astounded by this new version of me would be an understatement once he walked in on me perusing over my notes. The moon had embraced the starry sky , its pulsing light a breathtaking view to withhold as my eyes soaked in the evening scenery.
" Should I be worried?" Spoke Aaron, cautiously sitting at the edge of my bed, a look of suspicion on his face.
" What's there to be worried about?" Ignoring his skepticism, I dove back to jotting foot notes at the back of my notebook. The sound of pen running across the page during my frantic writing aroused from the beat of silence that lingered between us.
"So.... you're actually revising for the end of semester exams?" Another skeptical remark that prompted me to swivel my chair around, shooting Aaron a look of disapproval.
" Why is it so hard for you to actually believe that I'd be capable of studying for a school test?" I raised an accusatory eyebrow.
"Because you're....you," My eyebrows shoot even higher, taken aback by that statement.
"Care to elaborate?" With my arms folded, I waited for his well thought out response.
"I'm sorry, Levi,but you have a rep,"
" Which is...?" I gestured for him to extend his reasoning.
" Really?" Came a scoff. ", you've never studied for a test before in your life , usually you pay someone to take it for you. "
" Things change, okay?" I argued back despite Aaron's pessimistic attitude concerning the matter at hand. " I've decided to.... turn a new life. Become a whole different me from what I used to be. "
" In other words, you've decided to become a responsible adult?" He teased , his face masked in a smirk.
"I've always been responsible,"
"Yeah right,"
" It's true," I said. " And right now, I'm kinda in the middle of studying so if you could please step outside so that I can finish this chapter?"
Aaron doesn't react immediately, in stead, I watched as his eyes meticulously assessed me, biting onto a chapped skin on his bottom lip before shrugging dismissively.
"Fine," He shot up, ready to exit the room. " I'll leave you alone for the night. "
With eager eyes, I followed him as he sauntered towards my bedroom door however, he didn't exit, just stood rooted on the ground as if calling back on something. Turning on his heel, eyebrows knitted in suspicious, he asked," This has nothing to do with Teresa, right?"
