The day was successfully amazing as I bid Teresa goodbye , my face radiating with happiness, a smile tugged at the corners of my lips. She'd somehow managed to make Libraries cool in my perspective and I found myself looking forward to coming back here with her, if there ever was a next time. The question of whether she'd come with me next weekend to visit mom remained unanswered and the silence was beginning to chew me inside out. I could tell that she too was a bit anxious about the topic and opted to for silence as a coping mechanism , refusing to bring up that which was the source of her discomfort.
" You know, " I spoke after having dropped her to the church gate. " you don't have to come with me if it makes you feel uncomfortable."
" Oh?" Despite the hint of disappointment dancing inside her tone, Teresa's face lit up with detectable relief , almost as though an anchor had been lifted from her chest.
" Yeah, that was a dick move , asking you to accompany me over there and-"
" No, it's alright," She quickly interjected. " It's just that, I don't know how your mother would've reacted had I shown up at her door with you. It would be weird."
" What's so weird about that?" I raised a brow at her.
" I mean look at me," She motioned her hand over her frame. " everything about me is unusual so why would you think your mother would like me being around you?"
My eyes widened at that statement. To say I was perplexed by her words would be an understatement.
" What are you talking about? There's nothing unusual about you , Tess,"
" You're just saying that because you feel sorry for me," A dejected tone .
" Why would I feel sorry for you?"
" I don't know, I mean, who shows up at their parents' house with a nun as a guest?"
I couldn't hide my laughter, just hearing her say those words.
" Tess," Reaching for her hand, I held it in mine , prompting her to face me. " there's nothing unusual about a guy taking a really attractive nun home to meet his parents."
" Okay, first of all," Teresa said , a playful smirk on her lips. " never refer to me as 'attractive nun' and second of all , it is unusual for you to take me to meet your mom. Don't you see the absurdity behind this?"
" I really don't," I shrugged and she rolled her eyes at that before slipping her hand out of my grasp.
" Why do you want me to go with you anyway?" she asked finally, the playfulness in her voice dissipating instantly. " Why me? Don't you have any other female friends of yours that you can take besides me? " Her eyes swirled with emotions as they bore deep into my soul. " I mean, there's Ava, right? You can always take her."
Her failure to see the obvious signs of my feelings towards her was quite heartbreaking. I wished that she could put two and two together, but she was too blind to read between the lines of my painfully obvious infatuation towards her. Why would a guy suddenly request a girl to meet his parents? In this callous world , such a decision would be considered a huge step in one's relationship. Meeting parents would usually dictate the seriousness in one's relationship with someone, taking it to the next level but Teresa didn't have a clue or maybe she chose to stay ignorant. Maybe I was just a joke to her. I mean, our friendship makes zero sense and I'm certain mom would greet me with raised eyebrows if I were to show up at her doorstep with a nun.
" Why is it so important for me to come with you?" She asked , a pitiful look on her visage.
" I guess ....maybe it's because my mom is used to seeing me with rotten girls ," I inhaled deeply. " and bringing you home would be a change for both of us. At least then she'll get to see how much I have changed as a person. "
