" Time's up. Pencil's down, everyone,"
Those words were music to my ears as I slammed my pencil down , the five hours long torture of an exams finally over. I could almost feel the anchor in the room being lifted as students sighed and groaned in relief , pencils being placed down and test booklets being taken to the front , right where Mr. Arthur stood in his short stout frame , hands clasped behind his back with his face devoid of all fathomable emotions. As soon as my test was placed on his desk together with the other hundreds of students, I felt my phone vibrate from inside my pocket and without wasting time, fished it out and was met with Violet's text.
We're throwing a party! U r not bailing out on this one this time ;p
I smirked as I texted back a K before shoving my phone back into my pants and tried my luck in finding Aaron through the sea of outpouring students. The hallways were packed, heated conversations amongst student , each of them expressing their relief of having tackled that monstrous exams, others discussing possible answers on various questions on said exams while others whined about having not studied enough. I was just glad I was out of there and had finished the test. Of course some questions looked like rocket science but still, I was able to answer most of them even beating the required time. Feeling a sense of accomplishment , I agreed to the offer of attending the party Violet invited me to , as a reward for my academic efforts. A smile found its way onto my lips as I gave myself a pat on my shoulder, metaphorically speaking, for listening to Teresa's advice and not cheating on the test. She actually believed in me. My heart begun to swell with happiness, a boastful smirk accompanying it.
I actually did it. I made her proud .
Speaking of which, I spotted her veil covered head floating outside the room alongside other hundreds of students , her petite frame marching to where the rest of the students were heading to; the school gates seeing as everyone was rushing to head back to their homes , or dormitories to relax after tackling that test. With trepidation, I found myself elbowing through the crowded halls , trying to catch up with Teresa , the urge to thank her , an incessant itch that needed to be scratch. She seemed to be walking fast as it looked as though she was gliding down the halls, her frame slipping further and further away from my field of vision but my determination kept me going, chasing after her like a dog to a criminal.
" Teresa!" I opted to shout her name, my voice getting drowned by the rambunctious chatter around me. " TERESA!" This time, I was able to reel her attention back , her head whiplashing to search for the source where her name came from. It doesn't take long for her to spot my puffing body as I sprinted to where she stood.
" You walk so fast!" I commented, hands on my knees as I tried to regulate my huffy chest. " where are you rushing to like that?"
" I am needed in the library downtown, I promised Ms. Tanaka I'd volunteer today. It's inventory week and they needed a new set of hands to help with restocking the shelves and stuff," She said.
" Oh,"
" Yeah. So that's why am in a hurry. Don't want to be late ," She added as she walked to the exit doors and I trailed after. I know I acted clingy , always following her like her shadow but I just wanted to be around her, despite the awkward moments that seem to accompany us every time we hang out. I didn't want to give up just yet.
" That sounds cool," I said.
" Really?" Her voice was heavy with skepticism at my reply and I didn't want to chase the issue so I shrugged back. " there's nothing 'cool' about libraries, Levi."
" I know, but it's cool that you volunteered to help them. That's what's cool,"
I watch as she smiles to herself , an unmistakable blush creeping up her cheeks and spreading over to her ears. That invites a chuckle on my part as take mental notes on how ridiculously cute she looked when she blushed. I felt compelled to whip out my phone and snap a photo of that rare side of her and reveal it to her eyes , showing her how insanely cute she looked when she blushed.
