Toby the doggie

Short story's characters- Skye, beej, barb, Adam.

One lunchtime, Barbara and Adam were making sandwiches- Freshly made bread, with beautiful ingredients inside. Skye came running down with one of her picture books "mommy! Daddy!" She stoped abruptly and looked at them. "I want a doggie! The girl in my book has one! The doggie seems nice." Skye smiled adorably up at her parents.

Adam, slowly walked over to his daughter and picked her up "you want a pet, huh? How about a fish?" He teased. Skye shook her head quickly. "Okay, well doggies require a lot of care." Adam passed his daughter the sandwich Barbara made for their daughter.

"I promise, I'll look after Toby! I gonna call him that daddy." Skye smiled with her teeth. "Oh, are you now? Well, you'll have to show us how good you are at looking after your toys. Oh, and if mommy says it's okay." Adam suddenly added. "Pleaseee mommy!" Skye whined and pouted sweetly. "Okay, if you show us how well you look after your toys. Then you can have a dog." Barbara gave in. "And call him Toby?" Skye asked tilting her head. "And you can call him Toby." Barbara smiled.

Once the little girl had her lunch, she went back upstairs and began going through all her stuffed animals, till she found the perfect one.  "Toby!" She hugged the small, golden furred, stuffed animal. As Beej floated past, he saw the young girl playing and smiled.

"Whatcha got there, mini Maitland?" He sat next to her. "Mommy and daddy said I have doggie, if I look after Toby!" She shoved the stuffed animal in beejs face. "Ooh, very nice. Well, I have something to help." Beetlejuice grinned and clicked his fingers.

Suddenly, the stuffed dog began barking. It still looked like a toy but it could walk and bark. Skyes little eyes lit up in excitement, as she let the stuffed puppy run around her room. "Like it? It only lasts an hour, then becomes a toy again." Beetlejuice asked. "Love it! Thank you uncle Beej." Skye looked at him with her sweet doll eyes. "No problem kid. Now, I better get back to what I was doing." Beetlejuice shut Skye's door slightly and proceeded to go back to his tasks of the day.

The next hour was full off chasing and running after the dog. Skye was struggling to keep the doggie calm, so she decided it was time to tell her parents. "MOMMY! DADDY!" Skye brutally screamed. Barbara and Adam rushed up thinking their little girl was hurt. The parents eyes went wide, as they saw the toy animal running around. The mess that had been caused by the dog was atrocious; curtains ripped, Skye's toys had been knocked over and thrown around.

"What's going on?" Barbara asked in shock. The puppy ran to Adam and he picked it up as it turned back into a toy. "Uncle Beej made it real for an hour! It's too hard. I'm sorry." Skye began crying since she thought they were mad. "Hey, hey...it's okay. You should have told us sweetie." Barbara said before kneeling down and moving some of the hair off of skyes face. Skye went into her mothers arms quickly as she cried.

A week later, Skye was sat on the floor watching the tv. When suddenly, a little golden puppy, with a name tag saying Toby on walked in. Skye gasped and began petting the dog as it licked her face, resulting in her giggling. Barbara walked in holding Adams hand and said "surprise sweetie." Skye smiled at her mother and father whilst lifting Toby "but I thought I was irresponsible. So, I wasn't going to get one." The little girl tilted her head to the side.

"Well, me and your father spoke it over. We decided you'll learn as you go." The ghost mom smiled. The little family shared a group hug and the puppy began barking.

Beetlejuice walked passed them and smiled at Skye "nice dog." Skye smiled at her Uncle beej and chuckled.
