The day was here. It was Lydia's birthday. The family- especially the Maitlands- had been planning Lydia's surprise birthday party for months. Barbara, was particularly enthusiastic, since she'd always wished to throw her 'daughter' a birthday party. Although, Lydia was upstairs in her room staring at black and white photos of her and her mother, that were took before she passed.

It was the teenagers first birthday since her mother left her world and emotions were extremely high. Especially anger and sadness. She knew the family had thrown her a party, so she decided to keep calm whilst taking everything at once. Lydia knew the Maitlands were excited. It's all the couple had been talking about for the past few months. Lydia stood up, dusting her dress off, before walking down the creaky, wooden staircase.

The goths eyes widened. Black balloons floating in bunches, tables fillled with gifts( that were coverd in black wrapping). The streamers, the cups, the plates, the party hats; everything was black. Lydia swung herself along the end of the banister toward her ghost parents, hugging them firstly. "Oh my- Thank you. Thank you so much!" Lydia whimpered in her ghost parents arms as tears cascaded down her cheeks.

Adam dried them and smiled at the girl. "Just wait till you see what I've made." He pulled way from the hug taking a few steps towards a rectangular shape with a black curtain draped over. Adam pulled the black curtain to reveal a Photo Booth made of wood, it looked like something cool out of a horror movie. "I made a Photo Booth!" Adam proudly presented his work and pointed to the sign that read "Lydia's spooky Photo Booth". Lydia galloped towards the wooden box. Her eyes admired every carving, every screw, every minute put into making it. "Thank you Adam.." she spoke thankfully towards her ghost dad

Delia walked over "sh-should we put a Crystal in it to keep all the bad SpirAHts (spirits) away?" She held out her palms trying to feel the energy "Yas, very NeGAhtive." She paused looking at all the family, who were staring at her as if she was crazy. "Kale salad. Throw it out." Delia whisperd to herself, whilst closing her eyes as she took a deep breath before her husband, Charles, lead her away from the Photo Booth.

Charles, set his wife, Delia, down on the couch which had a massive selection of crystals on it. Delia was like a puppy trying to catch her tail, once she had her eyes on something (crystals) she was occupied for a while. Charles stepped towards his daughter and ran a finger down the dark oak of the photo booth. "So, Lydia. Happy birthday." Charles softly spoke whilst his daughter began hugging him thank you.

Beetlejuice suddenly turned the music up, allowing the synths to blast through the house. "So is this a goth party? Or is it A GOTH PARTY?" The demon yelled enthusiastically, grabbing his best friend, Lydia's, hand and throwing them up in the air. "LETS ALL GET HIGH!" Beetlejuice cheered. Lydia rapidly threw her hand down, followed by everyone saying "no!". Except for Delia she lifted her crystals, stood up and screamed "YAAASSS! I mean- no.. no..." she sat instantly back on the couch.

The demon put his hands up defensively before saying "Kidding, kidding, kidding. So cake?" He suggested, changing the topic. His stomach was rumbling and maybe it was because he was hungry or perhaps it was rumbling because he'd ate an entire snake on pizza before this.

Barbara, instantly began getting the blackly iced cake, set in the middle of the table; along with a knife for Lydia to cut the first slice. Adam, placed a black party hat on Lydia's head and pulled out her chair for Lyds to sit on. The lights dimmed, the cameras record button was pressed, the candles were shinning as the family sang happy birthday. Lydia blew every candle out in one breath then smiled. "I made a wish." The goth looked around the room, she finally felt like she belonged in the family, that she'd be okay, that she was so loved.

Beetlejuice interrupted "Fuck the wish, let's eat this cake then open gifts!" He cheered once again. The demon had never had a birthday, so he was extremely hyper.

Barbara inched closer to the demon and nudged him gently "Beetlejuice, this is Lydia's day and she decides. You'll get to choose on yours." Barbara patted the demons shoulder whilst whispering. The demons eyes lit up with excitement and nodded. Was he finally going to get a birthday? Yes. Yes, he was.

By the time midnight hit, the family was gathered around the fire, sat on pillows, and had blankets wrapped around themselves. They were huddled like penguins, all snuggled up together.

Lydia looked at all her family "Thank you. I thought today was going to be difficult because of my mom not being here. And, although it's different, I know I'm safe and loved. I really had a blast. So, thank you again"

Barbara and Adam cuddled closer to Lydia "Always here.." the Maitlands said. "Love you sweetie." Charles added. "Yeah, what they said scarecrow." Beetlejuice chuckled pointing finger guns at his friend. "Yeah! I don't always get it but I'm here too!" Delia smiled proudly, resulting in the rest to chuckle. "Thank you, Delia. I love you all." Lydia was crushed by this big group hug but she felt warm and relaxed.

The family then responded "We love you too." As they all fell asleep in front of the fireplace.
