NASREEN
Algiers, Algeria.

Umm managed to convince Abu to convince me to download and register for this Nikkah app, and I finally did, although Abu is the one handling the majority of everything until he's sure he has found a potential match for me.
I make my bed and go downstairs to make myself a cup of coffee to drink alongside this new book I got.

As the only child, I have the majority of the time to myself, which I try to make do with. It might be boring sometimes, but alhamdulilah. I remember when I was young, and all my cousins would come over for the week to spend their holiday.

I was the happiest when they came and the saddest when it was time for them to leave. Maryam is my favorite cousin, who has been married for at least five years and is already expecting her second baby. We've been inseparable since childhood; we also went to the same university, giving us more time to spend with each other.

We still try to make time to see each other during our free time to catch up on all we've missed and inform each other of the new things going on in our lives.

I make my coffee and head back upstairs to my room to start the book and finish this journal I've been making for Ramadan, in shaa Allah. Just as I sit on my bed, Umm opens the door to my room. "Nasreen, your father is calling you. Be quick, ok." She informs me.

I take a sip of my coffee and go after her. I step into their room and mutter, "Assalamu Alaikum," informing them of my presence. "Wa'alaikumus salam, come in, Nasreen." Abu says. I take a seat on the sofa, and Abu begins to talk.

"Do you remember the Nikkah app you registered for?" He asks, and I nod. "Well, I have someone who I think you should talk to and get to know him; see how compatible you two are and how far things will go," he says.

"Ok Abu, let him know that I have no problem meeting him to talk in shaa Allah." I tell him, "Mashaa Allah, do you perhaps want to see his picture?" He asks, "No, Abu, it's fine; I don't need to; I trust you." I add.

"May Allah bless you, Nasreen." He prays, and I smile, going to give him a hug. "Ameen, thank you, Abu," I say. "I have to go now; I left my coffee open in my room," I say, pointing towards the door.

"Go, go, we'll see you before dinner in shaa Allah," Umm says. I head back to my room and finish up my checklist before taking a break to rest. I doze off and wake up to the ādhan from the mosque.

I make wudhu and pray my salah before heading downstairs to help Umm prepare dinner. I cannot wait for Ramadan, my favorite time of the year. We finish dinner on time and set the table before heading up to pray Magrib and come down for dinner.

Abu returns from the mosque, and we head to the dining room for dinner. "I spoke to Aamir, and mashaa Allah, I think I forgot to mention it to you, Nasreen, but he lives here in Algiers." He says, "What a coincidence." I said I was serving him dinner.

"I think it's a sign that everything will go well." Umm says, "Come on, Umm," and I giggle, "It might just be a coincidence, ok?" I am trying to convince her. "Oh, come on, sit down and eat your food," she scolds, and Abu laughs, shaking his head at our banter.

We finish eating, and Umm and Abu retire early while I finish up everything and go to bed too after praying I'sha and setting up my alarm for tahajjud. I brush my teeth and perform wudhu before hitting the pillows and zooming off.
