NASREEN.
Algiers, Algeria.

It's Saturday already, and I've been so nervous. My Aunty Umm's sister sent Naeem over with a fruit basket for today, and Maryam was here earlier too. She helped us prepare a few things before leaving. Just as they come up the drive, Umm sends me upstairs to my room to wait there until I am needed.

Needing sometime to prepare myself mentally I agree too. I hear their voices from downstairs, and my heart starts to beat. I pick up the Qur'an to distract myself a bit from what is going on downstairs. Just as I'm about to go down, a beautiful girl walks up. I'm guessing she is Aamir's sister.

"Asalamu alaikum," she greets, "your father sent me up to stay with you while they discuss things. I hope you don't mind." She asks. "Waalaikumus salam, no, no, it's fine, please come in." I smile, ushering her into my room.

"So, how have you been?" I ask as we sit down, "I've been good, Alhamdulilah. How's the Ramadan so far?" She adds, "So far, it's been really good, Alhamdulilah." I say.

We continue talking about random things, and in the process, we learn a lot about each other. If Aman is this nice and down to earth, then I hope her brother is the same. We pause our discussion to perform wudhu when we hear the ādhan before heading downstairs to pray Magrib.

After salah, we all take a seat and dive in. Have I mentioned I still haven't properly looked at Aamir? I am so nervous, and I'm surprised at how I haven't spilled anything since sitting for dinner.

After iftar, we are given the chance to get to know each other with Aman in tow. Never have I been more glad for her being the third person in our midst.

"Assalamu Alaikum." He says once we are seated, "Wa'alaikumus salam." I respond, clearing my throat a bit, "How are you and how has Ramadan been so far?" He asks, trying to make conversation. I finally look up to see his face, and he is an exact replica of Aman except he's a bit darker and also a male, but they have quite a lot of similarities even when making conversation.

"It's been good so far, Alhamdulilah." I say, and he nods. "I know you have questions you want to ask; please feel free to ask me, and I'll try my best to answer in shā Allah, although we have to work with time." He says.
I began to ask him some of the questions I thought were relevant, and he answered all the questions I had, also asking me some in between.

We talk for at least fifteen minutes before Aamir's father says it's time for them to leave so they aren't late for I'sha. We leave shortly after them for the masjid too. After coming home, I clear up the kitchen, too exhausted to stay up to talk to Umm about my discussion with Aamir. I make wudhu and go to sleep.
