AAMIR
Algiers, Algeria.
Today is Eid, Alhamdulilah, and the Qur'an competition was a complete success, Alhamdulilah. After Eid salah, we all drove back home to have some good food. It feels so haram to eat on the morning of Eid.
After eating, we discuss a few things. Here and there, Baba and Nana go out to meet some relatives, and I take that as my queue to take a nap.
The famous Eid nap is not a religious obligation or cultural thing but is practiced widely by all Muslims. I take off the thobe I wore, put out the lights, dive under the covers, and sleep off almost immediately.
A few days later.
"Aamir please!" Aman begs me for the millionth time today. "You're just going to drop me outside, and then I'll find my way back home after." She says she is pouting. "I don't want people to think I can't wait to see my soon-to-be wife; that's why I used you as an excuse to come to her house." I sigh
"And when did you start caring about what others say about you, Aamir?" She asks while standing in front of me. "You know what? Just leave it. I'll beg Baba to take me so much for having each other's backs." She hissed, walking away.
My own spitfire I chuckled before calling out to her. "Fine, I'll take you; there's no need to disturb Baba." I said I was picking up my phone from the table. "Go get ready; I'll wait for you in the car. And don't waste my time; I have places to be." I say, walking past her as if in queue, that she imitates me before turning around to go to her room.
"I heard that, Uhkti. Better stop that, or you'll be begging Baba or Nana in the next ten minutes because I'll be out of this house if you try me." I scolded her.
"Urgh fine I'm sorry." She groans, going down after me, and we walk to the car together.
As we arrive at the venue, I unlock the car and wait for her to get down. "Call me when you're ready to go home; I'll come pick you up after." "You're the best brother in the world, you know. I don't know why you choose to be mean sometimes." She smiles sweetly.
"And by the way, I'll take pictures of her and send them to you after the wedding." She giggles while walking away. That little minx—I'll get her back for this.
I drive off thinking of how much I'm going to miss her after I move out. I drive down to the mosque and find a quiet place before opening the Quran to recite a few surahs. An hour later, my neck starts to ache, just as it's almost time for Asr. I drop the Quran and walk down to the main mosque to perform wudhu and pray.
Just as I exit the hall, my phone starts ringing, "Assalamu Alaikum." I mutter into the phone. "Wa'alaikumus salam, Aamir, we're done. Can you come pick me up when you're done with what you're doing, please?" "I'm on my way. Be ready before I get there, Aman. I know how you girls take your time to pack up." I warn, and she giggles, "Don't worry, we'll be done by the time you get here." She assures me.
I end the call and put it back in my pocket before strolling back to my car. I drive out of the masjid and head for Nasreen's house.
I arrive twenty minutes later, and just as I'm about to pull out my phone to call her, she walks out with Zarah behind her. I unlock the door and allow her in.
"So how was the event?" I can see you enjoyed your day from the looks of your hands." I smile as I pull out of their parking lot. "Oh my God we had so much fun," she shrieks "halal fun though, I had lots of food and tried different pastries then we got our henna done and we played some games while we waited for our henna to dry out. Also discussed some issues, girl issues by the way." She clarifies turning to look at me just as I'm about to ask so I nod signaling her to go on.This girl knows me more than I know myself.
And just like that, the chatterbox goes wi-wi-wi all the way home.
Assalamu Alaikum ya akhawat!!
