Alaric's POV
I felt really down when Fiorella suggested going into the crystal caverns. The weight of my mistakes was heavy on my mind, and it stirred up a lot of emotions. Alora's memory stuck with me like a sad song, reminding me of the aftermath of that intense fight with my dad. And now, I was worried about revealing the dark secret—the fact that I killed Alora's real dad. What would she do if she found out? I knew she'd turn against me, filled with anger and a desire for revenge.
I was frustrated and snapped at them, my voice full of bitterness. "Fine, you guys can go without me. Maybe someone here can't stand being around me. Take that stupid Eyebars with you, Alora. Find comfort in that cursed cave, the so-called lovers' sanctuary. It clearly means a lot to lovers, right Eric?"
Alora quickly responded, sounding annoyed. "His name is Aybars, not Eyebars," she corrected me, focusing on something as small as the way I said his name. It made me really mad. In that moment, I just wanted to make her forget about Aybars completely, erase any memories of their time together.
"Is that all you care about right now? That stupid Aybars with his horse-like face?" I said, my words sharp and stinging. The tension between us hung in the air. I wished I could silence her, wipe away any trace of his name and their moments together.
"He doesn't have a horse-like face!" Alora shouted back at me, her frustration matching mine. I wanted to shut her up, to make her understand how much pain I was feeling.
"And I'm not some all-powerful god!" I yelled, feeling both desperate and frustrated. "Can't you see that?"
The tension grew thicker. Emotions swirled between us, a storm of anger, sadness, and misunderstanding.
Fiorella tried to calm things down, saying, "Alaric, let's just take a step back and chill. We're friends, remember-"
"Yeah, exactly. We don't leave anyone behind. Alora, you need to understand that we're all flawed, whether we're vampires or not. We all mess up sometimes. That's how we learn and grow. I know you believe vampires should be perfect, but that's just not true," Eric interrupted Fiorella, hoping to make Alora see his point.
They were really trying hard to calm us down. They didn't want me to leave, because they knew I wouldn't come back if I did. They were my friends, but I really wanted Alora to step up and stop this destructive argument. It felt like being a vampire meant I couldn't make mistakes, like I chose this cursed life willingly. It made me so frustrated.
But Eric, once again, tried to stop me from losing control. "Come on, Alaric, calm down. Don't make rash decisions when you're angry," he pleaded.
I was so frustrated that I couldn't hold back the pain I was feeling. "You just don't get it, Eric! Being a vampire doesn't mean we can't mess up. It doesn't mean we're perfect. Alora needs to understand that," I said, pointing at her. "Did I choose to be a vampire? No! But you, who chose to become one, won't get it."
"So what, just because I'm a vampire, I'm not allowed to feel pain? Have flaws? Damn it, Alora! I never asked for this curse, but it seems like you enjoy blaming me for it." Everything went silent as I stormed out of the dorms. We had a great plan, if only Alora could be a bit less arrogant.
Saying that, I stormed out, my anger filling the air around me. I sought refuge in Blath, a place everyone feared and avoided. Even vampires like me knew that spending too much time there would destroy us. In my darkest thoughts, I thought maybe Blath could be my prison, a punishment for my mistakes. After all, vampires weren't perfect—we stumbled along dangerous paths too.
Lost in my thoughts, I couldn't stop thinking about Alora. I wished she could be the way she used to be, accepting me completely. I whispered to the empty space, "I wish you could be the person you were before, the one who didn't judge me for being a vampire. The one who embraced every part of me."
