The football game was later that week, the walls were decked in school spirit for the pep assembly which was meant to be next period. The rose festival queen photos were still up from the crowning just the week before.
The closer you got to the front of the school, the more the sparkling tiaras and gorgeous ass women were set on display. But after just seeing a kid devouring some teachers stomach, tiaras and football didn't really mean a thing at that point.
Avery passed by, running down for the main office. She'd been in trouble enough times to know the drill by then, let alone the fistfuls of stories she'd heard from Los.
"CARL- ..fuck,"
She didn't know where Liam had gone, when she looked back he wasn't there. He wouldn't bitch out, she knew that much so her worst fears came to mind.
She considered going back but the second that idiots voice hit her ears, there wasn't anything else on her mind but him.
"Carlos, what the fuck?!"
"Aver..man, shit..sorry." She peeked around the room which was empty. Blood markings trailed along the tile and traveled onto the carpet where Carlos must've dragged himself.
She shut the door quick and closed all the blinds to the room. Avery ducked down at his side, putting pressure on his torn up leg with the help of her jacket. He seemed pretty coherent given the shitstorm that they, mostly him, were in so she felt pretty okay about smacking him in the head.
"You mouth off at a teacher, this is what you get!" She scolded. He rolled his a little and opened his mouth as if to speak but that shit wasn't an option no more. "If you'd just bit your tongue like a fucking sane person yo-
"I'm fine, alright? It's just a scratch!" He insisted, swatting off the hands as she tugged at his soaked shirt. The bite marks on his chest told a different story. "Fuck, ma-..FUCK!"
"Calm down!" He glared, tugging at Avery who was feeling a bit tempted to take a little trip hunting corpses. She squat at his side, tugging a final time at the wrist that kept her in place."Chill." Her head lowered finally and the tears came.
"..what the fuck is happening.." Avery turned a bit at the hand on her cheek but Carlos kept on going. She aint ever seen him that soft before, she didn't wanna be either. "I ain't gonna say some goodbye. I cant do it."
"So, what?" Carlos shrugged, "You just gonna sit there, not say a thing? Im dead bruh, like it or not. An..if I'm going and your here, there's a lot I wanna say to you. You really gonna deny me that?"
"Fuck you." Los smiled wide at their banter, pulling himself up a bit straighter on the wall. "I like you too."
She tied at the makeshift turnaquite she'd thrown together, not minding the distraction. She wasn't sure how good it was but he seemed to be feeling okay. He might be comfortable, as long as he kept on breathing that is.
Avery shook her head, "I'm not saying that either."
"Come on. Be a team player n' shit." His voice dropped after a bit. "I know you want to. We'll both regret it if you don't."
The silence only lasted for a moment. Avery remembered earlier, remembered the horrific things you only ever hear about. The blood and t..it's a whole other bag, coming face to face with it.
