Reiner Braun. A strong soldier, physically and mentally. And trusted by his comrades.

Armin Arlert. While lacking in physical strength, he's demonstrated an extraordinary attitude toward his studies.

Annie Leonhart. Her strike form is flawless, but she works poorly with others and tends to isolate herself.

Bertolt Hoover. He had great potential but lacks initiative.

Jean Kirschstein. A master of 3D Maneuver Gear, but his brash personality causes friction with the team.

Sasha Blause. She has unconventional, good instincts, but they make her unsuited to teamwork.

Connie Springer. He demonstrates superior physical agility but lacks mental agility.

Akiro Sato. A strong cadet, skilled at fighting, could be better with his studies.

Mikasa Ackerman. A master of all subjects, and widely considered one of the best in our history.

Sakura Ackerman. A model cadet who excels in everything. It would be no overstatement to call the girl a genius. Or one of humanity's strongest soldiers. 

Eren Jaeger. He has no outstanding talents, but he's worked harder than anyone to improve his marks. And he is more motivated to attain his goal than anyone.

For the past three years, Commander Shadis had taken notes on everybody in the 104th training corps, but finally, it was graduation time.

"Dedicate your hearts!"

The trainees all held their fists to their hearts in response.

"Today, you trainee graduates will be given three choices. You can join the Garrison, protecting towns and reinforcing the walls. Or the Survey Corps, who risk their lives beyond the walls, in Titan territory. Or the Military Police, who serve the king, lead the people, and protect internal order. Of course, only the top ten students whose names were just announced can join the Military Police.

After they were dismissed, the cadets celebrated together.

"You'll never beat them!" Thomas' voice brought everyone's attention to where he was talking with the trio.

 Sakura's eyes narrowed as she listened to what Thomas continued to say.

"You do know how many tens of thousands have been eaten? We lost over twenty percent of our population, so we know for sure. Humans can not defeat Titans."

"Seriously?" Sakura exclaimed, bringing the attention to her. "Then why the fuck are any of you even here? For fun? To leave behind the weeding and shortage of food? I can personally guarantee you that I am here to help defeat the titans."

Bertolt placed his hand on his friends shoulder.

"I'll be outside." She handed him her drink. "Assholes."

As she exited, Riza followed until she had plopped herself on a step, looking up at the stars in the night sky.

Moments later, Eren was sitting next to her, wiping at his eyes.

Sakura looked at Eren, confused.

"I gave them a speech." Eren elaborated.

"Eren, when you were talking about your dream..." Armin trailed off.

"Yeah, I got that from you." Eren confirmed. "To live outside the walls, not inside."

"I'm joining the Survey Corps." Armin announced.

"Are you serious, Armin?" Eren questioned. "You got the best written test score, so you should use that!"

"I won't hold you back, even if it kills me." Armin confirmed.

"I'm joining the Survey Corps, too." Mikasa chimed in.

"Hey, you're one of the valedictorians. Join the Military Police!"

"If you join the Military Police, then I'll do that. If you join the Garrison, I'll join, too. You'll send yourself to an early grave without me." Mikasa responded.

"No one asked you to do this" Eren muttered.

"I don't want to lose any more family."

"What about you, Sakura?" Armin asked. "Where are you going?"

"Me? Why would you ask?" Sakura questioned in surprise.

"Because you're our friend." Eren piped up. "Since day one."

"Thank you." Sakura smiled slightly. "I'm planning on joining the Survey Corps."

As she pet Rizo's back, she looked up at the night sky.

"I want to help my family defeat the titans."

"Sakura! Get moving! The plan for when the Colossal Titan shows up is in motion." 

The colossal titan peered over the walls, causing panic to ensue. 

"Sir." Sakura snapped back to attention to put on her ODM gear. She could hear the bells ringing in her ears, as the scatter of feet on the ground mixed in. 

As she made her way to headquarters, she could see hundreds of people rushing toward the inner gate, hoping to be saved. 

"Just follow your training!" 

Orders were being shouted to the cadets. 

"Split into groups! Under the Garrison's orders, you will resupply combatants, relay orders, and kill Titans! Garrison intercept forces will form the vanguard! Trainees, led by the supply team, will comprise the middle guard! The Garrison's elite forces will form the rearguard. Also, messengers report that the advance team has been neutralized." 

Many people's eyes widened at the news. 

"The outer gate has been compromised, and Titans have entered the city. In other words, the Armored Titan may appear at any time, to destroy the inner gate!" 

"No way." 

"You're kidding." 

"If we lose Rose, too..." 

"Silence! As we speak, the vanguard is engaging them. We have but one objective in this fight: to defend Wall Rose with our lives until the evacuation is complete! Also, as you are all surely aware, desertion in the face of the enemy is punishable by death. Mark this well, and fight to your last dying breath! Dismissed!" 

"Yes, sir!"
