Chapter Four

"Let me go Quinn! I... I have to save her!"

"Alec..." I whispered, tears falling from my eyes, stinging as they passed over the cuts on my face.

"Don't you let her die, Kymber!"

"You need to leave Alec. What happens to her is no longer your concern! You made a deal, and you knew the consequences' of it!" Kymber said with strife and anger taking over her voice.

I opened my eyes to see Quinn's arms wrapped around Alec, gripping his clothes as Alec fought to be by my side.

Kymber was standing beside me as if to block any chance of Alec reaching me.

"You made a deal with Fletch, Alec! If you break that deal you know he will torture her and force, you to kill her just to prove a point!" Kymber argued to Alec.

I pulled my hands, bleeding with every movement, closer to my body and tried to push myself up.

"Everlynn..." I heard my name escape Alec's lips.

I looked over at them all as I let the weight of my body rest on the palms of my hands. I could feel where my clothes had ripped and tore from the impact of being thrown against the building. My whole body felt as if a train hit me, like there was nothing left to break inside.

"You need to lay down Eves." Kymber said to me in a mother like tone.

"Let me see him. Let him through!" I demanded.

Quinn let go of Alec with uncertainty on his face.

"Everylnn, I'm here. I'm right here." He wrapped his arms around my battered body taking the weight off my own hands while turning me over to lie across his lap.

I looked up at his face with hurt and confusion in my eyes. I raised my hand, bringing it to a rest on the side of his face. He brushed my bloody hair from my eyes with the softest touch. He tried to smile, trying to make me feel the slightest bit better, I guess.

My hand tried to reach in my pocket with what little strength I had, but all I could feel was the pain. I looked up at Alec, defeat written on my face like a song. I wrapped my fingers around his hand that was placed on my stomach, slowly guiding his hand down to the pocket on my ripped jeans. Even when I am in such pain, his hand on my waist felt so right. He pulled the necklace the old woman gave me out of my pocket.

"How... How did you get that?" He asked confused.

"That's not important. I need you to tell me...." I stopped mid-sentence as the unbearable pain made me wince.

"I need you to tell me if this was meant to be mine; if it was meant to come from you."

"Everlynn, I need you to know the truth, but it's complicated." Alec lowered his head as tears once again filled his eyes.

"That's enough! You know what the consequences would be..." Kymber snapped.

"It's time for you to go Alec and don't forget Quinn." She turned to Quinn with a death stare. "You are all mine! I promise you will be the first to fall when we all go to war!"

Quinn walked up to Alec, ignoring Kymber's threat, and reached down to grab him. Alec yanked away from Quinn's grip and pulled me into his chest.

"I love you." Alec whispered to me as his hand came to rest on my bruised face.

I closed my eyes and felt his lips against mine. Time stopped. My heart raced as our lips locked together with such passion. I raised my hand and entangled my fingers with his hair. My fingers gripping tighter as our passion for each other took over. We held each other tight, tighter than I have ever held anyone. For just a moment we were one, we were together, we were in love.

Pain took over as Quinn grabbed Alec, pulling him away from me. His eyes were set on mine as Quinn dragged him down the stairs of where I was laying, Alec fighting against him the whole time. Quinn raised his hand towards the storming sky and just like that they disappeared with a flash of light.

I fell back and looked up to see Millie's lifeless body still hanging above me.

"Hey! There y'all are!" I could hear Liz yell at us.

"What the fuck happened?!" Danielle asked with worry.

"Oh god! Millie!" Liz yelled with disbelief.

"Who did this? Who would kill Millie?" Aleena had silent tears running down her face.

Danielle started to scream as she saw the fate Millie had met.

"Who did this?!" They all asked as I raised my head to look at them.

"Quinn." Kymber replied with deep anger.

"Shit Everlynn, are you okay?" I stared as Liz as she asked.

"Yeah, I'll be fine." I winced as the pain set in again.

"Danielle, take Everlynn home. Aleena, Liz, and I will go get Millie." Kymber spoke as they walked up to the entrance of the building, disappearing into the shadows.

"Come on Eves, let's get you home." Danielle said as she helped me off the ground.

With one arm over Danielle's shoulder, I started to limp down the stairs towards home.

Will I ever see Alec again? Why did his kiss feel so right? My mind had so many questions as my body longed for his touch to be permanently mine.
