A Second Chance

Chapter 7

One afternoon in mid May, Rory was sitting in Lane's living room.

"What are you doing?" Lane asked when she saw Matthew lick an apple.

"Eating a apple" Matthew said

"You have to take a bite, bubba" Rory said

"No, like this" Matthew said and stuck his tongue out as far as he could. He giggled.

"Yes. Yes. Tongues are funny. I know" Rory said. 

"Where's kitty?" Matthew asked. When Steve and Kwan were a few years old, Lane and Zach decided to get them a cat, and like with most animals, Matthew was obsessed with her.

"I think she's in the twins' room" Lane said. "You can go find her if you want"

"I going find toast!" Matthew said and ran out of the living room.

"I love that your cat's name is toast" Rory said

"That's what happens when you let two 4 year old boys name a cat"

"I think it's cute"

"By the way, how are things going with Logan?"

"Things are good" Rory said.

"How good?" Lane asked. Rory knew that Lane was trying to ask if they'd slept together but didn't actually want to come out and ask that.

"Good"

One Saturday night at the end of May (2014), Logan was sitting in his mother's house, eating dinner with Shira, Honor, Josh, and their three daughters Reese (born November 2007), Jasmine (born May 2009), and Lily (born February 2011).

Since he moved back to Connecticut the previous October, his mother had been trying to convince him to let her set him up with someone. By that point he and Rory had been together for almost 4 months, but he'd yet to tell his mother, simply because he wasn't ready to. Anytime he started dating someone new, he'd have to hear his mother's opinions and it was annoying.

That night however, Shira kept going on and on about her friend's daughter and how she was perfect for Logan. He couldn't take it anymore, so he told her about Rory.

"Logan, you can't date Rory Gilmore" Shira said. Logan rolled his eyes. "She's a widow"

"Mom, you're a widow" Honor said.

"It's not the same. Rory has a child"

"Once again, you also have children" Honor said.

"Honor, stay out of it" Shira said. "Logan, think about it. Do you really want to be dating a single mother? What happens if you get married? You'll be stuck with her child too"

"I know what I'm getting into by being with Rory, and I think it's worth it"

"What are you gonna do if her child turns out to be an awful brat?" Shira asked

"He's not" Logan said.

"You've met him?"

"Multiple times" Logan said. "He's a sweet kid"

"Yeah, he's cute" Honor said.

"You've met him?" Shira asked, surprised.

"Yeah, he and Lily are friends. They go to the same daycare"

After a while, the conversation moved to other things. After dinner, Logan went over to Rory's place. 

"Hey" Logan said and quickly kissed Rory when she opened the door.
