A Second Chance

Chapter 13

At the end of April (2015), Rory, Logan, and Matthew moved into their new house and the following week if they invited Lorelai to come see it.

"This place is great" Lorelai said. "Although, I would get lost in here like 20 times a day"

Rory chuckled. "Come, I'll give you a tour" she said. "So your standing in the living room. The kitchen is over there on the left, and the dining room is right past it. Downstairs is the playroom, guest room, an office, and also the garage" Rory said as she walked through the house with Lorelai. They walked upstairs to the second floor. "So that's our bedroom, and across from it is Matthew's. He gets his own bathroom because...well, that's a perk of being an only child. Oh, and Logan found these little fish bath toys that swim when you put them in water. They also glow"

"Oh, that's cute. I bet he loved that"

"Yeah"

"So the rest of the rooms are just empty?"

"Yeah" Rory said. "I mean, we're kinda hoping that they won't be empty forever, but for now we don't really have anything do with them"

Just then they heard Matthew downstairs. "Mommy!"

"What do you need?" Rory asked as she and Lorelai walked into the kitchen.

"Cody" Matthew said and pointed at Cody who had somehow gotten into the kitchen table.

"Cody, get down" Rory said and the dog jumped off the table.

"Hey, where's  Logan?" Lorelai asked

"He's making me swings!" Matthew said excitedly. They had a really nice backyard, and Logan thought it would be a good idea for Matthew to have somewhere to play out there. Once they were fully unpacked, Logan went out and bought a swing set and a trampoline to put in the backyard. The driveway was also big enough for him to ride his little bike which he was excited about.

"What?" Lorelai asked

"My boyfriend likes to spoil my son"

One year later- May 2016:

On Saturday afternoon, Logan got home to find Rory and Honor sitting in the living room.

"Did I know you were coming?"

"Lily wanted to play with Matthew" Honor said.

"I hate to point out the obvious but Lily isn't here" Logan said.

"The kids went outside" Rory said. They could see the backyard from where they were, and it was completely fenced in so it was ok for the kids to be outside by themselves. "Cody's out there too"

"Ok" Logan said and quickly kissed Rory. "Hi"

"Hi"

"I have some work to do so I'll be in the office if you need anything"

"Ok"

That night Rory and Logan were getting ready to go out. Matthew was standing in Rory and Logan's bathroom, watching Rory do her hair.

"Who's watching me?" Matthew asked. He'd asked that question at least 5 times that day, but Rory would answer it again and again if it made Matthew feel better about her leaving.

"Aunt Megan"

"I like when aunt Megan watches me" Matthew said.

"I know" Rory smiled. 

"Ace, Megan's here?" Logan said as he walked into the bedroom.

"Ok" Rory said and went downstairs. By the time Logan got down there, Rory was already going over everything with Megan. "There's dinner for him in the fridge but he's picky and sometimes decides that he doesn't like things so you can try offering him something else if he won't eat it, and if he won't eat anything else, he'll eat your mom's bread with peanut butter on it" she said. "He still goes to sleep at 7:30 and he already had a bath so you guys can just hang out"

"No problem"

They said goodbye to Matthew and just as they were walking out the door, Megan grabbed Logan's arm. "Good luck" she said quietly. She really liked Logan and he told her what his plans were that night. She really hoped that it went well for him.

Logan smiled. "Thank you"

After having dinner at one of Rory's favorite restaurants, Logan drove them to a 'mystery location'. Rory hadn't fully paid attention to where they were going, and was surprised when she looked up to see that they were at Yale. "Why are we here?"

"I thought you'd like to take a walk with me" Logan said

"At Yale?"

Logan just smiled and got out of the car. They walked around the Yale campus for a while before they reached the specific spot that Logan was eagerly waiting for them to reach. "You remember this place?"

"How could I forget?" Rory smiled as they walked towards the coffee cart she'd been so dependent on in college. It was also the place where she first met Logan.

"Hold on, Ace. Stop for a second" Logan said. He stopped walking and took both of Rory's hands in his. "I love you...so much, and I love Matthew, and I love our lives together. I love getting to wake up next to you every morning and falling asleep with you every night. I love every single moment I spend with you, and I can't imagine my life without you in it...." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black velvet ring box. "Rory, will you marry me?"

Rory glanced down at the engagement ring that Logan was holding and then back up at him. There was a time when she thought she would be alone for ever. That was quickly replaced by the thought that it would just be her and her son. Since then a lot had changed. She'd been with Logan for almost 2 and a half years, she'd been pregnant (and had a miscarriage), she and Logan had been living together for over a year, Matthew loved him. Things were good.

Several moments went by Rory hadn't said anything. "Ace?" Logan asked. He was worried that he might've upset her, or brought back some memories...He didn't know but her silence was making him nervous.

Rory smiled softly. "Yes"

"Yes?"

"Yes"

Logan put his hands on either side of Rory's face and kissed her deeply. "I love you so much"

"I love you too"

When they got home, Megan was sitting in the living room. "What did you say?" She asked excitedly.

"You knew?" Rory asked.

"Of course I knew" Megan said. "My parents know too"

Rory turned to look at Logan who was behind her. "Well, I went to talk to your mom about this a couple of weeks ago, and I figured I should probably talk to your other parents too"

"What?"

"You said it yourself, you might not be related by blood but they're your parents" Logan said.

Rory just smiled. "Who else knows?"

"Your mom, Luke, your in laws, and Megan" Logan said. "That's it"

"Oh, that's it" Rory said sarcastically. To get that seemed line a lot of people to know that she was getting engaged before she did.

"Yeah, that's it"

September 1st 2016-

Rory was standing next to lorelai, getting ready to walk down the aisle at her wedding.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" Rory asked.

"No reason" Lorelai smiled. "I'm just proud of you"

Rory smiled.

"You ready, kid?"

"Yeah"
