Aldric's POV
Alas, I couldn't find my mate on the weekend, and we returned disappointed on Sunday night. I attended school and training as usual on Monday and Tuesday, but I was not my energetic self.
Honestly speaking, I have already given up on having a mate. Even Axe was upset, but I am glad to at least have someone who understands just how I feel.
I am glad, and I know everyone who's trying to cheer me up is doing it for me, but they had their mates and could not understand how I was feeling.
Though I had been kind of drowning in self-pity for the last two days, today I had to cheer up as it was our badass, lovely friend Valerie's 18th birthday.
And trust me when I say that girl has been planning her 18th birthday since the day we started to understand stuff.
I attended training in the morning, where I met Clovis, but Valerie had taken a day off so she could get ready for her all-perfect birthday.
As much as I was happy for her and found her excitement good, I really pray to you, moon goddess, please do not be cruel to my friend. Please let her find her mate today itself.
As I got out of the front door of my house and walked to where Clovis's car was parked, I could hear them talking.
"I'm very happy and excited, Clovi; I cannot even express how excited I'm for today. But I'm really scared as well." Valerie said to Clovis
"I am glad you are happy and excited, Val, but why are you scared?" Clovis replied
Sigh. "It's just that I've been planning my 18th birthday for so long, and I've always imagined meeting my mate and how it would be and all, but what if I did not find my mate, or what if I do not really have a mate?" Val said
"Of course that won't happen. Val, you will definitely find your mate, and it is impossible that you do not have a mate. Don't be a pessimist. I am sure today is going to be as amazing as you've been imagining it to be." Clovi replied
"Exactly, Val, I totally agree with Clovi; you'll definitely find your mate today, and just because I didn't find my mate, don't think so negatively. Just enjoy it. Don't ruin today's day with all nonsensical thoughts." I said walking up to them.
"Don't worry, man; you'll definitely find your mate too soon. I know it for sure." Clovis said this to me as he put his arm around my shoulder.
"Anyways, happy birthday, Val!" I wished her and hugged her.
"Thank you. Alright, let's go!" She exclaimed.
"Oh, thank God she is back to being herself." Clovis said while chuckling, and I laughed at them when Val started hitting him.
—
Right now it was lunch break, and me, Clovi, and Val were all headed to Val's locker because she wanted something out of it.
We reached her locker, and as she was finding whatever she wanted in her locker, the students from the classroom across the locker stand were rushing out for lunch break.
After a lot of them passed by the corridor, I saw Liam, the to-be head warrior of our pack, walking towards us. He is a good friend, but we haven't really hung out with him since last semester, only during training sessions.
"Hey Liam, what's up, man? Where were you all this time?" Clovi greeted him with a handshake and a shoulder bump.
"Nothing really; it's just that training and school have been taking a toll," he replied.
Amongst all this, we did not realize Val was just stuck there looking at her locker.
I nudged her, and as soon as she turned around, Liam locked eyes with her, and they were both standing there looking at each other.
