Y/N POV
Reaching the deadwoods we find everything dead quiet.
Carter: "This' the place."
Y/N: "It's quiet. Too quiet."
I scan the area. But all of a sudden my bones begin aching. Softly exhaling I'm met with frost.
Carter: "How's it eighty but feels like thirty?"
Y/N: "Demon's nearby. They have a negative effect on the environment. Often times it's a massive drop in temperature."
Carter: "So all those times a shiver ran down my spine, a demon was around?"
Y/N: "Yep."
Carter: "And with that I'm a believer. Where are they?"
Y/N: "I don't know."
I look all around. When my eyes hit forward all the nerves in my spine go haywire. I point that direction.
Y/N: "There."
I hop off my motorcycle, walking to the demon. Going about a mile we push pass some brush. In doing so we encounter a small camp of hunters.
Carter: "That's a whole lotta hunters."
Y/N: "Seems my old friend has really stepped his game up since our last meeting."
Carter: "How're we gonna deal with these guys?"
Y/N: "Normally I'd just use brute force. But since I'm still healing, that's out of the question."
Carter: "Then looks like we'll need to go old school."
He withdraws his rifle and lays on his stomach. Then closing an eye he looks down the barrel. After a brief stand still he fires a bullet. I follow the bullet to see it hit a lock to a cage. Dozens of deer are set free, creating untold chaos. Carter stands up smiling.
Carter: "Let's go."
We head into the camp and to the main tent. In doing so I see a familiar face.
Y/N: "Sergei, been awhile."
He spins in his chair, facing me.
Sergei: "Y/N. A pleasure."
He looks at Carter.
Sergei: "And who's the old man?"
Carter: "Guess your momma didn't teach you manners."
Y/N: "I thought you got taken to a Atlas black site prison."
Sergei: "I did. But wouldn't you know it, the truck was ambushed by some rouge huntsmen."
Y/N: "Knew I should've sent the A.R.E.S. No matter. Time you went to prison."
Sergei: "Sorry Mudak. But I was promised something infinitely better than world recognition."
He reaches under his desk. But he screams as a shot rings out. He then holds his bleeding shoulder. I look at Carter who lowers his rifle.
Carter: "That's for calling me old man."
I walk to Sergei.
Y/N: "What were you promised?"
Sergei: "Go to hell."
I ram my thumb into his wound. Then twisting it Sergei screams like a banshee.
Y/N: "Don't make me ask twice."
Sergei: "I cannot say."
Y/N: "Then you are of no use to me."
Sergei: "Wait! I can still help you!!!"
Y/N: "Prove it."
Sergei: "The person who made the promise, I can tell you where they're heading."
Y/N: "Spill it."
Sergei: "Anima."
Y/N: "Be more specific."
Sergei: "Shion. They said they had an informant. If you hurry you might be able to intercept them."
Y/N: "You better be telling me the truth."
Sergei: "I swear I am."
I knock Sergei out and head back to the deadwoods.
Carter: "So what're you gonna do?"
Y/N: "Head to Shion."
Carter: "What about your wound?"
Y/N: "It's made some sizable progress. I predict it should be fully healed by the time I hit Mistral."
Carter: "What if you die?"
Y/N: "I won't."
Carter: "Then I wish you the best of luck."
He holds out his hand. I smile firmly shaking his hand.
Carter: "You've got faith kid. That's a powerful thing to have in the face of evil. May it give you enough strength to win."
Letting go I hop onto my motorcycle. Then bringing back the throttle I speed towards Mistral.
