Y/N POV

It's been a few weeks since I've started bunking with Carter. In that time I've been helping him around his cabin. Since he's a bit up there in age I was tasked with the more physical stuff. Things like chop wood and tend the crops. Normally this kinda thing would've killed me. But turns out not having a soul gives someone damn near infinite stamina.

Carter: "I'm back."

I finish the last log then walk to him.

Y/N: "How'd it go?"

He hops off his horse.

Carter: "Not good."

He reaches over his horse grabbing a bundle of three rabbits.

Y/N: "Three? That's less than last time."

Carter: "I know. Something's not right. Normally I'd get at least ten."

Y/N: "Another apex?"

Carter: "Likely. But then there's this."

He reaches into his saddle bag. From it he withdraws a hunk of metal.

Y/N: "The heck is that?"

Carter: "Don't know. Never seen anything like it."

He sets it on the kitchen table. We both then stare at it.

Carter: "It almost looks like a bear trap."

An idea goes off in my head.

Y/N: "Let me see one of those rabbits."

He hands me one.

Y/N: "You might wanna take a step back."

He moves to the living room. Carefully I move the rabbit towards the hunk of metal. When they're about an inch apart the metal glows. It then latches onto the rabbit. After that a projection is shown. On it is what looks like the rabbit's memories. We watch it's journey, starting from it leaving its burrow to Carter shooting it dead.

Carter: "What the hell was that?"

Y/N: "A trap curtesy of an infamous hunter."

Carter: "You sound like you know this person."

Y/N: "I did. Met him on a job. He was trying to expand his semblance to animals."

Carter: "Why?"

Y/N: "Wanted to go down in history as the most prolific hunter. Sadly the way he was doing it was inhumane. Earned him a dead or alive status in every kingdom."

Carter: "I take it what we saw is connected to his semblance?"

Y/N: "Yeah. Has the power to project memories. Guess he found the way to expand it to animals. We need to find him. Where'd you find that trap?"

Carter: "In the deadwoods. About an hour from here."

Y/N: "Then let's get going."

Getting outside we head to the stables. But the second I step foot in a loud roar is heard.

Y/N: "I recognize that roar."

I head to the source to see two doors violently rattling. They lurch forward but chains keep them from opening. I smile.

Y/N: "Oh come on. You can do better than that."

I whistle twice. The doors are continuously pushed forward. But still the chains keep them from opening.

Y/N: "I thought you loved me. Guess I'll just have to replace you."

The doors stop moving. But they soon explode open. Fire erupts outwards, heading for me. Something black shoots forward only to stop a hair's width in front of me. That signature ear piercing rev rings out. I smile.

Y/N: "Of course I'd never replace you."

I take a seat reveling in my motorcycle's embrace.

Carter: "Is that thing possessed?"

Y/N: "Sorta. Kinda was a gift from the guy I sold my soul to."

Carter: "Now I've gotta hear the whole story."

Y/N: "Perhaps another time."

Carter hops onto his horse.

Carter: "Yeah. Shall we get going?"

I smile revving my motorcycle.

Y/N: "Try to keep up."

I pull back the throttle, speeding towards the deadwoods.
